Center for Community Organisation and Development (CCODE) was carrying out a new initiative under the REDDA program grant titled LOCALLY MANAGED FINANCE FOR URBAN ECO-SYSTEM RESTORATION. Catalyzing community led action by Slum Dwellers in Southern Africa.

This four year program which started in (February 2025 and to end in January 2029) is designed to address the escalating degradation of urban and peri-urban ECO systems in Malawi, Zambia and Zimbabwe.

It empowers Slum Dwellers to lead restoration efforts through locally managed finance and evidence based advocacy directly benefiting nature, climate and people in Malawi.
In Malawi The program targets two cities and these are Lilongwe in mtandire and kawale.. Mzuzu in Salisbury line and ching'ambo

HAPPY LABOR DAY

23/04/2026

Yesterday the Center for Community Organisation and Development CCODE and the Federation of the Rural and Urban Poor had the pleasure of being hosted to a meeting by the new Chief Executive of Lilongwe City, Mr Clement Stambuli at his offices in Lilongwe.

Lilongwe City Council and CCODE have been strategic partners in urban development for quite a long time.

Our meeting mainly focused on :

✅Land regularisation in informal settlements as a pathway to strengthen tenure security and unlock service delivery

✅The meeting also discussed opportunities within the circular economy in waste management. Looking beyond composting to innovative ,livelihoods driven models that create jobs, reduce environmental risks and contribute to fighting urban poverty in Malawi.

✅To collaborate on the operationalisation of the newly constituted CDF, ensuring it responds to the needs of informal settlements and supports sustainable community development.

Yesterday gave us another assurance and hope in service to the communities we work with.

Today, young people from Mtandile and kawale ,are participating in a data collection training organized by CCODE under the REDDA Project, aimed at equipping them with practical skills to collect accurate and reliable community data. Through this initiative, the youth are empowered to engage directly with community members, identify key environmental and socio-economic challenges, and contribute to evidence-based solutions, while also strengthening their role as active participants in sustainable development and supporting informed decision-making to address land degradation and improve livelihood.
