Foundation for Rural Development (FORUD) is a Non-Governmental organization that was established in September 2012and got registered on 21st June, 2016 with the Government of Malawi at the Registrar General under the Trustees incorporation Rules. The Organization is also affiliated to Council for Non- Governmental Organizations in Malawi (CONGOMA) and NGO Board of Malawi. Further- more FORUD is af
filiated to Malawi Council for the Handicapped (MACOHA), and Social Welfare Office, District Youth Office (DYO), and Coordination Union for the Rehabilitation of the Environment (CURE). The organization was established with the view of promoting citizen participation in developmental activities. The founding members realized that citizens are not the integral part of development activities and not fully engaged or involved. Citizens are also denied inclusive participation and decision making structures where only an elite group of people make decision which in the end hinder the progress of communities in Malawi. It is in this view that FORUD came into existence in order to break the barrier of participation among citizens in developmental activities and other issues that affect them.
