NAYORG Launches CARE Project in Balaka District

On Tuesday, 14 July 2026, Nkhadze Alive Youth Organization engaged Youth Technical Working Group in Balaka to officially launch the Civic Action for Rights through Engagement (CARE) Project, targeting youths, women, persons with disabilities, local communities, duty bearers and other marginalized groups in Traditional Authorities Phalula and Msamala in Balaka District.

The project's goal is to strengthen the capacity of youth-led and community-based civic actors in Balaka District to safely monitor, influence, and expand civic space through evidence-based action.

Speaking during the launch at Positive Steps in Balaka, Assistant District Youth Officer for Balaka District, Emmanuel Devele, welcomed the project, noting that it will help amplify youth participation and strengthen civic space across the district.

The project will be implemented over a four-month period (July-October) with financial support amounting to €17,000 from Hivos and Government of Ireland under the four year program, popularly called: Connect, Defend and Act (CDA) Programme (2025–2029).

Universally, we celebrate Christmas in December with various gifts that we offer to one another. But, unfortunately, not all people have the resources to celebrate on this day. Giving Tuesday Malawi and Hadley's Hope Foundation believe that we can celebrate Christmas and show generosity every day. Every day, we can share food, time, knowledge, and materials with the people surrounding us.

This is what Giving Tuesday Malawi and Hadley's Hope Foundation are doing this week at Mponda Primary School in Balaka District as we share Christmas cards and candies with learners as part of inspiring everyday generosity and growing the culture of giving.

Our collaboration with Hadley's Hope Foundation aims to promote acts of generosity in schools across the country. This activity gave us the opportunity to raise awareness about mental health issues that affect young people as young as seven years old, which is very alarming.

To expand the mental health messages, the young people at Mponda Primary School have composed and recorded a song creating mental health awareness among fellow primary school children to help reduce su***de cases among young people.

Last week, on 8 July 2026, we had an interactive time with Zikutheka Foundation, an organization of persons with disabilities based in Balaka District. During the meeting, we introduced the Giving Tuesday Movement, discussed the importance of generosity, and explored potential areas of collaboration to ensure that the movement is inclusive and continues to grow across Malawi.

Through this engagement, Zikutheka Foundation gained a deeper understanding of the purpose and vision of Giving Tuesday and expressed its willingness to join the movement.
