🇲🇻♟️ Proud Achievement for Team Maldives in Shenzhen, China! 🇨🇳

The 2nd World Greater Bay Area Youth Chess Exchange Tournament 2026, held in Shenzhen, China from 25–26 July, brought together 16 youth teams for two days of chess, friendship, and cultural exchange.

We are delighted to share that the Maldives Chess Team was honored with the Young Goodwill Ambassador Award and the Best Cultural Style Award, recognizing our players’ outstanding sportsmanship, cultural representation, and positive spirit throughout the tournament.

The Maldives Chess Team also achieved an impressive 10th place out of 16 participating teams, a commendable performance in a highly competitive international event.

Our young chess players performed exceptionally well, proudly representing the Maldives both on and off the chessboard. Their dedication, respect, and enthusiasm made this tournament a memorable experience and strengthened friendships with young players from around the world.

Congratulations to all our players for being wonderful ambassadors of the Maldives. Your achievements have made our nation proud! 🇲🇻👏

🇲🇻♟️ Proud Moments for Team Maldives in Shenzhen, China! 🇨🇳

Today, the 2nd World Greater Bay Area Youth Chess Exchange Tournament 2026 officially commenced in Shenzhen, China, bringing together 16 youth teams for two days of exciting international chess and cultural exchange.

As the Maldives celebrates its 61 st Independence Day, our young chess players proudly represented the nation not only across the chessboard but also through a beautiful Maldivian cultural performance during the tournament’s opening ceremony.

The team showcased Dhandi Jehun, one of the Maldives’ most treasured traditional folk dances, introducing our rich cultural heritage to an international audience. It was a proud moment to share the history, traditions, and spirit of the Maldives with participants and guests from around the world.

We are immensely proud of our young ambassadors, who represented the Maldives with excellence, respect, and national pride—both in chess and in culture.

🇲🇻♟️ The 2nd World Greater Bay Area Youth Chess Exchange Tournament 2026 officially commenced today in Shenzhen, China 🇨🇳, bringing together 16 teams from APEC economies in a celebration of youth, friendship, and international chess.

The tournament, taking place from 25–26 July 2026, provides a wonderful platform for young players to compete, learn, and build lasting friendships across borders.

Adding to the significance of the opening ceremony, the Maldives Chess Team proudly presented a traditional Maldivian cultural performance in celebration of the 61st Independence Day of the Maldives. 🇲🇻✨ It was a proud moment to showcase our rich culture and national identity on the international stage.

We wish all participating teams the very best and extend our heartfelt support to Team Maldives as they continue to represent our nation with pride, determination, and sportsmanship.

Proud to see the Maldives Chess Team representing our nation at the Asian Youth Chess Championship 2026, held in Shenzhen, China, from 15–25 July 2026.

Our delegation consists of 7 talented young players competing across the Girls Under-10, Under-12, Under-14, Under-16, and Open Under-14 categories. This prestigious championship brings together the best young chess talents from across Asia, providing our players with an invaluable opportunity to gain international experience, sharpen their skills, and proudly represent the Maldives on the global stage.

We wish all our players the very best as they compete with determination, confidence, and sportsmanship. May this championship be a memorable learning experience and a stepping stone to even greater achievements.

On 20 July the global chess community came together to celebrate International Chess Day.

This year FIDE invited national federations, clubs, schools, organizers and chess enthusiasts around the world to participate in the celebration. The Maldives Chess Association was honoured to join this global initiative by showcasing the spirit of chess alongside the unique beauty, culture and heritage of the Maldives.

Maldives Chess Team Departs for the 28th Asian Youth Chess Championships 2026 🇲🇻♟️

Today, 15 July.. The Maldives Chess Team departed for Shenzhen China to compete in the 28th Asian Youth Chess Championships 2026.

The team consists of 7 talented players who will proudly represent the Maldives in this prestigious continental event.

Jersey Handover Ceremony - MCA

The Maldives Chess Association proudly handed over jerseys to the Maldives Chess Team players who will represent the Maldives at the 28th Asian Youth Chess Championships 2026 in Shenzhen, China.

The jerseys were officially present by Deputy Minister Mohamed Aseel of the Ministry of Youth Empowerment, Sports and Fitness. We sincerely thank him for his encouragement, support and for taking the time to inspire our Maldives Chess Team 🇲🇻
