🇲🇻♟️ Maldives National Chess Team Departs for the Commonwealth Chess Championships 2026 🤩

The Maldives Chess Team has officially departed today (16th may 2026) to participate in the prestigious Commonwealth Chess Championships 2026, which will be held in Kalutara.( Sri Lanka )

A total of 36 members are travelling as part of the delegation, including 18 talented players who will proudly represent the Maldives on the international stage.

We extend our heartfelt congratulations and best wishes to all players, coach, officials, and accompanying members. Representing your country in such a prestigious event is a great achievement, and we are proud of every one of you.👏🫶

May this tournament bring valuable experience, success, and memorable moments for Team Maldives. 🇲🇻♟️

The Commonwealth Chess Selection 2026 is now ongoing .
18th April – 25th April

From this selection, the Maldives team will be chosen. One official slot from each category will qualify to represent the Maldives at the Commonwealth Chess Championship 2026 in Sri Lanka.

🏆 SKILL Chess Tournament on Women’s Day IWD 2026 🏆

For Women’s Day 2026, the FIDE Commission for Women’s Chess has announced the theme:

“Visible, Connected, Worldwide”.

This initiative aims to celebrate March as a month of chess for women and girls, inviting federations, clubs, and organizers worldwide to unite local activities into a global network.

Key Aspects of the FIDE 2026 Initiative:
Theme: "Visible, Connected, Worldwide"

Focus: Highlighting, linking, and strengthening projects for women and girls in chess globally

Activities: Promoting tournaments, workshops, and community events throughout March 2026

Context: Expanding on the inaugural 2025 celebration, highlighting players, arbiters, trainers, and organizers

Note: This is specific to FIDE’s chess-related celebration. The broader International Women’s Day 2026 (IWD) global campaign theme is .

In line with this initiative, Skill Training Centre is organizing an all-women chess tournament to support and promote girls in chess.

Tournament Details:

Organizer: Skill Training Centre

Open to: Any woman or girl who is a Maldivian citizen and loves chess

Fees: Free

Date: 8th March 2026

Platform: Lichess

Time: 9:00 PM

Registration Deadline: 7th March 2026

Type of Tournament: Rapid (10 minutes per game, 5 rounds – Total 50 minutes)

Prizes:
1st Place: Trophy
2nd Place: Silver Medal
3rd Place: Bronze Medal
