Arulmigu Mariamman Thirukovil - Lalmatie Arulmigu Mariamman Thirukovil - Lalmatie has been here for many years in the spiritual path of Mauritians. The Mariamman Kovil was just renovated in 2015.

In the mid 1970's, a poor young man, named Jean Claude Mammeroo ( Fiston), residing at E.D.C Lalmatie. He was a great devotee of Tamil deities and he participated in most of the Tamil Religious Festivals all over the Island. As such he built a small concrete Temple (8ft by 10ft) in front of his own house where he idolized the Goddess Ammen. Following which, Theemidee poosei was done during short

intervals. In the course of time, the Kovil started other poosei like Kathipoosei, Canjee, etc. Being a Close friend to Iyer Keswa Rungen, they both met met wherever and whenever Tamil Poosei was Held in the Island. Unfortunately Fiston passed away on the 10th of February 1985 and Iyer Keswa Rungen took the responsibility of the Kovil onwards, and till now with the grace of God and the help of the community and with the Devotion of Iyer Keswa Rungen the Kovil has known much prosperity and brought peace in the life of many Mauritians. Now the Kovil performs most Tamil Religious Prayers and Festivals. Among them are: Sitirai Cavedee, Govinden Tiruvizha, and Theemidee Poosei.
