What a journey it's been! We wrapped up our 'Oui Recycle!' awareness campaign in primary schools across Mauritius, and the numbers tell a story we're incredibly proud of.

Over the course of the campaign, we reached 19,898 students through 886 sessions in 255 schools island-wide. That's thousands of young minds learning why recycling matters, how waste is sorted, and the small everyday choices that add up to a cleaner Mauritius.

None of this would have been possible without our 13 eco-educators, who travelled from school to school, classroom to classroom, bringing energy and patience to every single session. Their dedication is the heart of this campaign, and we're deeply grateful for the passion they shared.

To all the schools that welcomed us, from the headmasters and headmistresses to the teachers and the pupils themselves: thank you from the bottom of our hearts. The students' enthusiasm was remarkable once again, demonstrating that the next generation is more than ready to protect this island!

This reach would not have been possible without partners who believe in our work. We are sincerely grateful to Investec Bank (Mauritius) Ltd and Small Step Matters - Social Impact Platform for standing behind We-Recycle.

Another meaningful way to mark World Environment Day! 🌿

We were proud to join Mont Choisy Group's sustainability journey this year β€” our Resikle Pou Grandi beneficiaries from Bel Ombre led a live demonstration on plastic bottle-to-filament transformation, giving employees an up-close look at how waste can become a resource.

Moments like these remind us that real change happens when awareness meets action β€” and when organisations open their doors to make it possible.

Thank you, Mont Choisy Group, for the warm welcome and for putting sustainability at the heart of your World Environment Day celebrations.πŸ’š

Last Saturday, we marked World Environment Day with a morning of action in La Digue, Bambous β€” and what a morning it was!

Joined by 11 volunteers from Le Bocage International School and 2 from PGL Capital, our team came together for a clean-up and endemic tree planting activity that left the neighbourhood a little cleaner and a little greener.

Together, we collected 27 kg of recyclable waste and 35 kg of general waste β€” and wrapped up the morning by planting 25 endemic plants in Bambous Public Garden, adding a lasting green footprint to the community.

A huge thank you to every volunteer who dedicated their Saturday morning for this activityπŸ’š

This year's World Environment Day theme, "Our Land. Our Future", calls on all of us to restore what we've lost and protect what remains. Planting endemic species back into Mauritian soil, and keeping our neighbourhoods clean β€” that, to us, is what the theme looks like in practice!

🌍 World Environment Day

This year's World Environment Day theme β€” "Inspired by Nature. For Climate. For Our Future." β€” arrives not as a warning, but as a call. This reminds us that the question is no longer whether change is coming. It's how fast we act, and which direction we choose.

The numbers speak plainly: 2015–2025 were the hottest eleven years on record. By 2050, droughts could affect over three-quarters of the world's population, and glaciers are projected to vanish from a third of their current sites.

For Mauritius, these aren't distant projections. Temperatures and sea levels here are already rising faster than global averages, and the country faces accelerated coastal erosion and coral bleaching.

This year alone, ocean heat waves bleached 80% of corals in Mauritian waters β€” reefs that shelter our coastlines, feed our fishing communities, and draw visitors from around the world.

We feel the signals. Today, we send one back.

As part of the global movement, We-Recycle will be on the ground tomorrow in La Digue, Bambous β€” cleaning up, planting endemic trees, and choosing, together, to move in the right direction.

🌍 Earth Day 2026 | Our Power, Our Planet

Today, we join millions around the world to celebrate Earth Day under the global theme β€œOur Power, Our Planet” β€” a strong reminder that real change begins with each of us.

From reducing waste to protecting our ecosystems, every action, no matter how small, contributes to a healthier, more resilient planet. Across the globe, communities are coming together to tackle climate change, pollution, and biodiversity loss through collective action and everyday choices.

πŸ‡²πŸ‡Ί Here in Mauritius, this message resonates deeply. As a Small Island Developing State, our environment is not just our heritage, it is our future.

At We-Recycle, we witness every day how awareness, education, and community engagement can drive real impact:
♻️ Empowering citizens to sort and recycle responsibly
🌱 Promoting sustainable consumption habits
🀝 Mobilising volunteers and partners for clean-ups and environmental actions

Earth Day is more than a celebration, it is a call to act. The power to protect our island lies in our hands, in our daily habits, and in our collective commitment to change.

πŸ’š Join us in our mission to reduce waste, protect our natural resources, and build a circular future for Mauritius!

We're incredibly excited to announce our latest partnership bringing sustainable change to Mauritius! πŸŽ‰

Thanks to the green vision of Maubank and Tribeca Shopping Mall, brand new sorting bins for plastic bottles and beverage cans are now live at Tribeca – making recycling easier and more accessible for everyone! ♻️

Why this matters:
This collaboration marks another decisive moment in our mission to transform waste management across Mauritius. We believe that businesses, NGOs, and communities can work hand-in-hand for a cleaner tomorrow.

How it works?

πŸ“Œ Visit Tribeca Shopping Mall

πŸ“Œ Look for our eco-bins located throughout the premises: (1) Next to McDonald's drive-thru; (2) Next to the side underground parking entrance of Tribeca; (3) On Engen filling station

πŸ“Œ Drop off your sorted plastic bottles and beverage cans (do not put anything else in the eco-bins)

πŸ“Œ We-Recycle handles the rest with regular collections and proper recycling!

A massive THANK YOU to MauBank for sponsoring this initiative and to Tribeca Shopping Mall for championing sustainability and taking action with We-Recycle! πŸ‘

Your Role Matters!

Every beverage can, every bottle you sort counts towards recycling and a cleaner country. Every conscious choice you make – it ALL contributes to reducing our island's environmental footprint.

Let's build a Mauritius we're proud to pass on to the next generation. Join us in making recycling the norm, not the exception! 🌱

🌍 Inspiring social change!

We’re proud to share the impact of the first term of our 2026 awareness campaign in primary schools across Mauritius.

Through dedicated eco-educators and partners, in February and March, we:
🟒 Reached 128 schools
🟒 Ran 508 sessions
🟒 Engaged with 12,084 Grade 5 & 6 learners

Making an impact, one classroom at a time! Young learners are now equipped to become responsible citizens and our environmental stewards for tomorrow.

This initiative underscores our ongoing commitment to the communities we serve, and we’re grateful for the support of Investec Bank (Mauritius) Ltd and Small Step Matters - Social Impact Platform.

Together, we’re building a cleaner, more sustainable Mauritius.

πŸŒβ™»οΈ Happy International Day of Zero Waste!

Every second, a garbage truck's worth of clothing is incinerated or dumped in a landfill.

πŸ˜” The fashion and textile industry alone produces up to 92 million tonnes of waste globally every year.

And that's before we even talk about plastic.

Plastic waste is one of the most visible and devastating pollution crises of our time. It clogs our oceans, litters our beaches, and fragments into microplastics that enter our food, water, and bodies. As a small island nation, Mauritius knows this reality all too well. 🌊🐠

The numbers are staggering. According to the United Nations, we generate between 2.1 and 2.3 billion tons of municipal solid waste every year β€” plastic packaging, electronics, food waste, and textiles among them. Without urgent action, that figure could reach 3.8 billion tons annually by 2050.

This year's theme β€” "Towards Zero Waste in Fashion & Textiles" β€” reminds us that fast fashion and plastic go hand in hand. Synthetic fabrics shed microplastics with every wash. Clothing is wrapped in single-use plastic at every step of the supply chain. Tackling textile waste means tackling plastic waste too.

πŸ’š At We-Recycle, we're taking on both. From plastic bottle collection drives across Mauritian communities to awareness campaigns on reducing single-use plastics, we're working every day to keep our island clean, circular, and waste-free.

Here's how YOU can act today:
βœ… Choose natural or recycled fabrics over synthetic fast fashion
βœ… Refuse single-use plastic β€” bring your own bag, bottle, and container
βœ… Repair, reuse, and recycle before throwing away
βœ… Sort your plastic waste and drop it at a We-Recycle collection point

Doubling the number of times a garment is worn reduces greenhouse gas emissions by 44%. Refusing one plastic bottle a day adds up to hundreds saved a year.

Every action counts!

πŸŒβ™»οΈ Driving Impact on Global Recycling Day β™»οΈπŸŒ

At We-Recycle, Global Recycling Day is more than a date on the calendarβ€”it’s a call to meaningful action! On 18th March, we were proud to co-organise a meaningful field activity at Caritas Bel Ombre with the support of dedicated volunteers from Checkout.com.

The morning began with a community-led bottle collection initiative, bringing together local residents and volunteers in a shared effort to reduce plastic waste. This was followed by hands-on sorting and cleaning of the collected bottlesβ€”an essential step in preparing the material for its next transformation into strips and ultimately, 3D-printing filaments.

This initiative is part of a broader, purpose-driven project we are implementing with Caritas Bel Ombre, supporting a group of eight unemployed women in the south. Through skills development and access to income-generating opportunities in filament production, these women are not only building sustainable livelihoods but also becoming ambassadors for environmental stewardship within their communities.

By diverting recyclable plastic from the landfill and reintegrating it into the circular economy, this project reflects the impact that collaborative action can achieve.

We extend our sincere appreciation to Checkout.com volunteers and the local community for their engagement and commitment to this initiative.

Together, we continue to turn waste into opportunity. 🌱
