Għaqda Patrimonju u Festa Mġarr

Għaqda Patrimonju u Festa Mġarr The aim of this organisation is to organise a better village feast every year for the Mġarr people, visitors and emigrants who visit Mġarr.

The Għaqda Patrimonju u Festa Mġarr together with enthusiastic helpers, strive to organise a better village feast every year for the Mgarr people, visitors and emigrants who visit Mgarr during the Festa period every year mainly from Australia, Canada, USA and Europe. The Feast of the Assumption of St. Mary in the picturesque village of Mgarr Malta is held in August and the festivities are spread o

ver a minimum of five days with the core being reached on Sunday, when the state-of-the-art statue of the Holy Mary is carried in a pilgrimage along several streets in Mgarr. Earlier on the day, exactly on the strike of midday, several groups of local men engage themselves in an auction-like offering to gain the privilege to carry the much-beloved statue in the evening, a tradition being held every year since 1922 when the statue was completed and brought over from Marseille, France. In 2009, the statue was duly and professionally restored by senior conservator-restorer at PrevArti Pierre Bugeja just before the Feast, making it a much better occasion for the parishioners to celebrate and enjoy the festivities. Many thanks also go to contributors who made this possible. The Committee is mainly responsible for the external activities and organises several activities all year round to raise funds that are utilised for the festive activities. All those who would like to contribute in any way being suggestions, giving a much-needed helping hand or anything else, please feel free to do so by contacting any of the committee members or contact us through Facebook.
