လုံခြုံစိတ်ချရတဲ့ နေစရာတစ်ခု ရရှိခြင်းက နေရပ်စွန့်ခွာနေရသူတွေရဲ့ ဘဝမှာ ကြီးမားတဲ့ အပြောင်းအလဲတစ်ခု ဖြစ်စေနိုင်ပါတယ်။

“စရောက်လာခါစတုန်းက တာပေါ်လင်အမိုးနဲ့ ယာယီတဲ တစ်ခုထဲမှာ လူတွေအများကြီးနဲ့ အတူနေခဲ့ရတာ။ အခုတော့ ဝါးအိမ်လေးနဲ့ ကိုယ်ပိုင်သီးသန့်နေရာလေးရတော့ ပိုပြီးလုံခြုံတယ်လို့ခံစားရတယ်။”

ကချင်ပြည်နယ်၊ မြစ်ကြီးနားမြို့မှာ နေရပ်စွန့်ခွာတိမ်းရှောင်နေရတဲ့ မဘီခေါင်နော အတွက် ပိုမိုလုံခြုံတဲ့ အမိုးအကာတစ်ခု ရရှိလာခြင်းက စိတ်အေးချမ်းမှုနဲ့ သက်သောင့်သက်သာရှိမှုကို ပိုမိုရရှိစေပါတယ်။

A safe place to live can make a big difference after displacement.

“When I was first displaced, we had to live in a makeshift shelter with a tarpaulin roof shared with many others. Now we have a shelter built with bamboo, with more privacy, and I feel more safe.”

For B Hkawng Naw, who is displaced in Myitkyina, Kachin State, having a more secure shelter has brought a greater sense of safety and comfort. It is a simple change, but one that helps make daily life feel a little easier.

In Sittwe, UNHCR distributed longyi, shirts, trousers and slippers to displaced communities with support from the Myanmar Humanitarian Fund.
By listening to displaced communities and responding to their priorities, we aim to make sure the support we provide is needed and useful in daily life.

A recent field visit to Myitkyina, Kachin State brought the Chargé d’Affaires and the representatives of the Embassy of Japan in Myanmar together with UNHCR and other UN agencies to better understand the needs of communities affected by displacement and see how humanitarian support can contribute to longer-term solutions.

Meeting displaced families and local partners offered an opportunity to listen to their experiences, understand the challenges they face, and learn more about efforts to support safe, sustainable and dignified pathways forward.

UNHCR is also working with partners on longer term solutions to help displaced communities move towards greater stability and self-reliance.

In Myanmar, humanitarian needs can change quickly and so must the response.

During a recent visit to Sittwe, representatives from the Australian Embassy in Myanmar met displaced and stateless communities and learned more about the challenges they face, as well as how UNHCR is responding.

Australia’s humanitarian support gives UNHCR the ability to respond as the situation changes and direct assistance to where it is needed most.

Distributed as part of UNHCR's core relief item kits in Kachin State, solar lamps provide displaced families with a reliable source of light, helping improve safety and protection after dark.

For families away from home, safety is not just about having a roof overhead, but also about the things that help them get through each day.
