Support Group For Elderly Doctors (Myanmar)

Support Group For Elderly Doctors (Myanmar) MMA Support Group for Elderly Doctors (SGED ) was formed in October 1999, to offer support to elderly doctors whose age is 70 years and above.

WHO WE ARE

We are a non-profit, charitable organization formed under the aegis of the Myanmar Medical Association with the aim of looking after the welfare of doctors over 70 years old in Myanmar. WHAT WE DO

We take care of the social wellbeing of the elderly doctors, render needed medical assistance and other essential services to those ill and disabled, and provide financial aid for ill health

and bereavement. HOW YOU CAN HELP

Firstly, those in Yangon can volunteer services and time for any of the services we are providing to the elderly doctors. Lack of volunteers is our greatest constraint. Secondly, monetary contributions of any amount will be most welcome from anyone or any organization in Myanmar or abroad. Contributions in kind especially medicine or medical appliances and devices for the elderly doctors are also welcome. FUTURE PROJECTS

Day Care Centre Project - one of the greatly felt and expressed need by many is a day care service and for those looking for social interaction with friends or some form of leisure activity like reading, etc. for mildly or temporarily ill or disabled doctors during day time while the family is away earning a living. Changing family structure and other social and economic changes have put the older of the old, those over 80, living in cities, at a great disadvantage when ill or disabled as they frequently are. Unlike in villages friends and extended family in cities are seldom nearby or available or able to help and fulfill this need. A Day Care Centre for elderly doctors is sorely needed and a suitable site in Yangon has been procured and plans are underway for a fully serviced centre to become a reality. This is a big and ambitious but worthwhile commitment and will take much more effort and funds for fruition. An extensive fund drive has been launched together with a call for other types of contributions towards attainment of this objective. HOW YOU CAN HELP

Monetary contributions may be made towards separate special funds set up such as for the Day Care Center or as specific donations for a specific purpose such as cataract operation and intraocular lens placement for one individual elderly doctor. Donors from abroad are requested to contact SGED in Myanmar or the contact points in countries abroad before any payment or transfer of funds to SGED. ....
