Today, July 30th, is World Day Against Trafficking in Persons. We want to take time today to recognise Thao Anh, someone very close to the Eden family.
When Thao Anh was just eleven years old, she was kidnapped from a market in Vietnam and trafficked to China. She was forced into slave labour before being sold as a child bride at twelve years of age.
Years later, with her infant son strapped securely to her back, Thao Anh began an unimaginable three-month walk home to Vietnam - a journey fuelled by nothing more than a mother’s love and determination to find freedom. After being reunited with her family, she worked hard to rebuild her life and provide for her son.
But life remained incredibly difficult. When her son was seven years old, Thao Anh accepted what appeared to be a legitimate job opportunity in Thailand, hoping to earn enough to support her family. Instead, she was deceived once again. The job never existed. She was trafficked into Myanmar and forced to work inside a scam compound.
Knowing the danger she faced, Thao Anh encouraged the other women with her to escape. Together, they made the courageous decision to jump from a fifth-storey window into a river below. Their escape led to unjust imprisonment before they were eventually released, beginning their journey with Eden at the safe house, where they finally found safety, care and hope.

Today, Thao Anh is rebuilding her life and raising her son with renewed hope for the future. Reflecting on her journey, she simply says, ‘Every day I’m getting a little happier, one day at a time’.
