🌍 From Mali’s NDC 3.0 to COP31: raising our voices for a just transition.
On October 1, Ms. Diallo Oumou Modibo Keïta, Executive Director of JVE-Mali, participated in the validation workshop for Mali’s NDC 3.0. During its development, she advocated, in her capacity and on behalf of JVE-Mali, ACJM and COMAGESC, particularly for placing gender at the heart of climate action.
During her remarks, she welcomed the priorities presented: an NDC that integrates gender and focuses on adaptation and mitigation. She also stressed that these ambitions require financing and safeguards for a just transition. Projects linked to carbon markets must benefit communities, respect their rights and be subject to transparent and participatory oversight mechanisms.
Our advocacy takes place at three levels: national, to incorporate our concerns into policy documents and monitor their implementation; regional, through the African Caravan for Climate Justice, whose Mali chapter will launch next week; and international, to collectively bring these concerns into the negotiations at COP31.
Even if we cannot all attend COP31, our voices must carry weight in the negotiations. Let us support the organisations and representatives who will bring our shared positions to the negotiating table.
From commitments to financing, and from financing to action: for climate justice that benefits communities.
