🔬 Sur le terrain: documenter la diversitĂ© des Ericaceae de Madagascar

Dans les aires protĂ©gĂ©es de Tampolo, Maromizaha, Andasibe et Mantadia, les Ă©quipes poursuivent les travaux de collecte et d’inventaire taxonomique autour de l’Anjavidy (Erica sp.) et de la flore associĂ©e.

Ces missions ne se limitent pas Ă  la collecte de plantes:

🌿collecte de spĂ©cimens botaniques ;

📚mise en presse des herbiers pour assurer leur conservation scientifique ;

đŸ·ïžĂ©tiquetage des Ă©chantillons avec les informations de terrain essentielles ;

đŸ“±observation et enregistrement sur iNaturalist, afin de partager les donnĂ©es avec la communautĂ© scientifique et les observateurs de la biodiversitĂ©.

Chaque spĂ©cimen collectĂ© constitue une trace prĂ©cieuse de la biodiversitĂ© malagasy. Les herbiers permettent de vĂ©rifier l’identitĂ© des espĂšces, de documenter leur rĂ©partition et de soutenir les recherches futures sur leur Ă©cologie et leur conservation.

Ce travail contribue au renforcement des connaissances taxonomiques sur les Ericaceae et la flore associĂ©e dans l’Est de Madagascar.

Kew’s Millennium Seed Bank Partnership (MSBP) has been the leader in seed conservation in Madagascar for over two decades, working with the Silo National des Graines Forestieres (SNGF) to build a nucleus of expertise on the tree flora of Madagascar.

The current project for the MSBP team in Madagascar is focussing on ex-situ conservation of threatened, endemic and useful tree species, prioritising multi-provenance collections.

« Effet des associations mycorhiziennes sur la croissance des plantules destinĂ©es Ă  la restauration de la forĂȘt sĂšche du Parc National d’Ankarafantsika »

Cette étude a été menée au sein du Millennium Seed Bank Partnership de Kew Madagascar, dans le cadre du projet Weston Global Tree Seed Bank: Unlocked (GTSBU).

Pourquoi cette recherche est importante ?

Les rĂ©sultats mettent en Ă©vidence le potentiel de l’inoculation mycorhizienne pour :

🌿 amĂ©liorer la croissance des jeunes plants,
đŸŒ± renforcer leur qualitĂ© et leur vigueur,
🌳 soutenir les efforts de restauration Ă©cologique,

Three photographs illustrating “hope” and “resilience” — from the Itremo Massif Protected Area 🌄

At Kew, colleagues in the UK and Madagascar are occasionally invited to submit photographs representing a particular theme, and the entries are ranked according to the number of votes they receive.

For this July competition, the three photographs from Madagascar were ranked in the top three places — all of them taken in the Itremo Massif Protected Area.

Taken at sunrise in the Itremo Massif, this photograph captures the beginning of a new day dedicated to protecting Madagascar’s unique natural heritage.

This photograph shows tree seedlings being carried on foot to an area that will be restored to forest, illustrating the efforts of local communities to restore and care for the native forests on which their livelihoods depend.

Although it has passed through fire, Euphorbia itremensis is flowering once again in all its beauty. It is a reminder that some forms of nature possess a remarkable capacity for renewal.
