There is no such thing as a natural disaster. ⚠️

Hazards are natural. Disasters are not — they result from where people live, how infrastructure is built, and who has access to early warning systems. Reporting on these human causes, rather than framing events as "natural", puts the focus on what can be done to reduce risk.

Journalists and media professionals have a responsibility to help the public and political leaders understand what actually drives disaster losses, so that policy decisions can address them.
