Du 5 au 15 août 2026, les équipes et partenaires du Durrell Wildlife Conservation Trust (DWCT) dans la région du Menabe ont franchi une étape essentielle vers une conservation toujours plus éthique et responsable. En effet, une série de sessions intensives de formation de recyclage et de sensibilisation axées sur le Safeguarding et le PSEAH (Protection contre l'exploitation, les abus sexuels et le harcèlement) a été déployée sur le terrain, dans le cadre du projet Fitantanana Maharitra Holovain-jafy.

🤝A travers les activités quotidiennes, les échanges avec les communautés locales sont permanents. Garantir un cadre de collaboration sûr, éthique et respectueux constitue donc une priorité absolue pour atteindre les objectifs du Projet FMH. L'ambition partagée est d'ancrer durablement une culture institutionnelle de tolérance zéro face à toute forme d'abus, d'exploitation, de harcèlement ou de violence.

📊Ciblant les acteurs clés au niveau des Aires Protégées Menabe Antimena (APMA) et Ambondrobe (APCLFA), ces actions ont porté leurs fruits grâce à la mobilisation de deux points focaux Safeguarding du Durrell. Au terme de quatre sessions de formation et de sensibilisation, dix-huit membres de l'équipe de site ont renforcé leurs compétences. De plus, vingt-neuf patrouilleurs issus du KMMFA ont été pleinement conscientisés et responsabilisés à travers des sessions pilotes en focus groups.

👏Félicitations à l'ensemble des équipes pour cet engagement renouvelé en faveur d'une conservation de la biodiversité à la fois rigoureuse et profondément respectueuse des droits humains.

From 5 to 15 August 2026, the teams and partners of the Durrell Wildlife Conservation Trust (DWCT) in the Menabe region took a crucial step towards ever more ethical and responsible conservation. A series of intensive refresher training and awareness-raising sessions focusing on Safeguarding and PSEAH (Protection against Exploitation, Sexual Abuse and Harassment) was rolled out in the field as part of the Fitantanana Maharitra Holovain-jafy project.

🤝Through daily activities, there is constant interaction with local communities. Ensuring a safe, ethical and respectful framework for collaboration is therefore an absolute priority for achieving the FMH Project’s objectives. The shared ambition is to firmly establish an institutional culture of zero tolerance towards any form of abuse, exploitation, harassment or violence.

📊Targeting key stakeholders within the Menabe Antimena (APMA) and Ambondrobe (APCLFA) Protected Areas, these initiatives proved successful thanks to the involvement of two Safeguarding focal points from Durrell. Following four training and awareness-raising sessions, eighteen members of the site team have enhanced their skills. In addition, twenty-nine rangers from the KMMFA were fully informed and empowered through pilot focus group sessions.

👏Congratulations to all the teams for this renewed commitment to biodiversity conservation that is both rigorous and deeply respectful of human rights.

Le 30 juillet dernier, l’équipe du projet FMH a réuni ses partenaires stratégiques pour un atelier de consultation dédié au site web d’information sur les feux.

📊L’atelier avait pour objectif de présenter la plateforme du projet, démontrer son utilité concrète — à l'image des données du paysage de l'Aire Protégée Massif d'Itremo — et recueillir les retours pour faire évoluer l'outil au plus près des besoins du terrain. Car pour aller plus loin que le simple constat des zones brûlées, il est essentiel de mieux qualifier l'impact réel des feux afin d'orienter efficacement la prévention, les ressources et les interventions.

🤝Dans la continuité de cette dynamique de collaboration, l’équipe du projet s’est rendue le 10 août dans les locaux du Ministère de l'Environnement et du Développement Durable (MEDD) pour visiter leur centre de suivi des feux. À cette occasion, le MEDD s’est engagé à tester activement la plateforme du projet en conditions réelles avant de partager son retour d’expérience d’ici quelques mois, à l’instar de l’ensemble des acteurs invités lors de l’atelier.

On 30 July, the FMH project team brought together its strategic partners for a consultation workshop dedicated to the fire information website.

📊The aim of the workshop was to present the platform, demonstrate its practical usefulness — as illustrated by the landscape data from the Massif d’Itremo Protected Area — and gather feedback to develop the tool in line with the needs on the ground. This is because, to go beyond simply identifying burnt areas, it is essential to better assess the actual impact of fires in order to effectively guide prevention, resource allocation and response efforts.

🤝Building on this collaborative momentum, the project team visited the Ministry of the Environment and Sustainable Development (MEDD) on 10 August to tour their fire monitoring centre. On this occasion, the MEDD undertook to actively test the project’s platform under real-world conditions before sharing its feedback in a few months’ time, as will all the stakeholders invited to the workshop.

À l’occasion de la Journée Mondiale des Patrouilleurs, le projet FMH tient à célébrer ces hommes et ces femmes d'exception qui arpentent quotidiennement le terrain pour préserver notre biodiversité.

🥾Depuis 2021, l’effort déployé témoigne d'un engagement sans faille : nos équipes effectuent une moyenne impressionnante de 𝟑 𝟓𝟎𝟎 𝐤𝐢𝐥𝐨𝐦𝐞̀𝐭𝐫𝐞𝐬 𝐞𝐧 𝐩𝐚𝐭𝐫𝐨𝐮𝐢𝐥𝐥𝐞 𝐜𝐡𝐚𝐪𝐮𝐞 𝐦𝐨𝐢𝐬. Cet arpentage régulier constitue un rempart quotidien essentiel pour surveiller la faune et la flore, prévenir les dégradations et assurer la quiétude du massif forestier.

👥La réussite du projet repose avant tout sur son ancrage participatif, avec 𝟔𝟎𝟎 𝐦𝐞𝐦𝐛𝐫𝐞𝐬 𝐝𝐞 𝐥𝐚 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐮𝐧𝐚𝐮𝐭𝐞́ devenus les véritables gardiens de leur propre patrimoine naturel.

👏En cette journée dédiée aux patrouilleurs, nous saluons le dévouement, l'équité et la persévérance de ce collectif inspirant. Grâce à leur travail constant, kilomètre après kilomètre, l'avenir de nos forêts est entre de bonnes mains. Un grand merci à eux !

🥾Since 2021, the efforts made demonstrate an unwavering commitment: our teams cover an impressive average of 𝟑,𝟓𝟎𝟎 𝐤𝐢𝐥𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐭𝐫𝐞𝐬 𝐨𝐧 𝐩𝐚𝐭𝐫𝐨𝐥 𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐲 𝐦𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐡. These regular patrols provide an essential daily safeguard for monitoring flora and fauna, preventing damage and ensuring the tranquillity of the forest.

👥The project’s success rests above all on its participatory approach, with 𝟔𝟎𝟎 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐦𝐞𝐦𝐛𝐞𝐫𝐬 who have become the true guardians of their own natural heritage.

👏On this day dedicated to the patrol members, we pay tribute to the dedication, integrity and perseverance of this inspiring group. Thanks to their tireless work, kilometre after kilometre, the future of our forests is in safe hands. A huge thank you to them!

Les 28 et 29 juin 2026, la protection de notre planète a été mise en valeur à l’occasion de la célébration conjointe de la Journée Mondiale de l’Environnement, de la Journée Internationale de la Biodiversité et de la Journée Internationale de la lutte contre la Désertification et la Sécheresse.

🌳Durant cet événement majeur, le 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐣𝐞𝐭 𝐅𝐌𝐇 a été représenté par deux de ses partenaires de mise en œuvre 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐏𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐠𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐞 𝐅𝐮𝐧𝐝 𝐌𝐚𝐝𝐚𝐠𝐚𝐬𝐜𝐚𝐫 (𝐓𝐏𝐅) et 𝐃𝐮𝐫𝐫𝐞𝐥𝐥 à travers des stands dynamiques et informatifs.

Les nombreux visiteurs venus à notre rencontre ont pu découvrir et échanger sur des thématiques clés pour l’avenir de nos écosystèmes :
- 📌Nos actions sur terrains : présentation globale des activités et des différents sites d’intervention
- 🤝Un partenariat fort : mise en lumière de nos partenaires techniques et financiers
- 🏞️Focus sur Bemanevika et Mahimborondro : valorisation de ces deux sites d’exception du projet. Les visiteurs ont pu en apprendre plus sur les services écosystémiques essentiels fournis aux communautés locales et découvrir les produits du terroir, tels que les arachides
- 💪L’engagement des communautés locales, des VOIs : hommage aux efforts indispensables des VOIs cogestionnaires des sites. Leurs actions concrètes ont été partagées avec le public : reboisement, actions de lutte contre les feux, pare-feu, et suivis écologiques

On 28 and 29 June 2026, the protection of our planet was highlighted during the joint celebration of World Environment Day, International Day for Biological Diversity and the International Day to Combat Desertification and Drought.

🌳During this major event, the 𝐅𝐌𝐇 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐣𝐞𝐜𝐭 was represented by two of its implementing partners, 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐏𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐠𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐞 𝐅𝐮𝐧𝐝 𝐌𝐚𝐝𝐚𝐠𝐚𝐬𝐜𝐚𝐫 (𝐓𝐏𝐅) and 𝐃𝐮𝐫𝐫𝐞𝐥𝐥, through lively and informative stands.

The many visitors who came to meet us were able to learn about and discuss key issues for the future of our ecosystems:
- 📌Our work on the ground: an overview of our activities and the various project sites
- 🤝A strong partnership: highlighting our technical and financial partners
- 🏞️Focus on Bemanevika and Mahimborondro: showcasing these two exceptional project sites. Visitors were able to learn more about the essential ecosystem services provided to local communities and discover local produce, such as groundnuts
- 💪The commitment of local communities and the VOIs: a tribute to the vital efforts of the VOIs, who co-manage the sites. Their practical actions were shared with the public: reforestation, fire prevention measures, firebreaks and ecological monitoring

Nous avons appris avec une immense peine la disparition de Norbert, qui était un membre précieux de notre équipe. 🕊️

Au-delà de ses compétences professionnelles, nous tenions à saluer son engagement et la bienveillance qu’il a apportés à notre collaboration.

C’est avec une profonde tristesse que nous vous faisons part du décès de notre collègue et ami, Monsieur 𝐍𝐨𝐫𝐛𝐞𝐫𝐭 𝐑𝐀𝐙𝐀𝐅𝐈𝐍𝐃𝐑𝐀𝐊𝐎𝐓𝐎, 𝐑𝐞𝐬𝐩𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐞 𝐝𝐮 𝐯𝐨𝐥𝐞𝐭 𝐑𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐮𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐞́𝐜𝐨𝐥𝐨𝐠𝐢𝐪𝐮𝐞 𝐝𝐞 𝐥’𝐚𝐢𝐫𝐞 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐭𝐞́𝐠𝐞́𝐞 𝐝𝐞 𝐌𝐚𝐤𝐢𝐫𝐨𝐯𝐚𝐧𝐚 𝐓𝐬𝐢𝐡𝐨𝐦𝐚𝐧𝐚𝐨𝐦𝐛𝐲.

Norbert a rejoint l’équipe de l’aire protégée de Makirovana Tsihomanaomby en mai 2023. Depuis son arrivée, il s’est distingué par son engagement, son professionnalisme et sa passion pour la conservation de la nature. À travers son travail, il a contribué au développement des connaissances et des pratiques du MBG Madagascar en matière de restauration écologique, tout en œuvrant activement à la réhabilitation des parcelles forestières dégradées au sein de l’aire protégée.

Animé par une volonté constante d’apprendre et de partager ses connaissances, Norbert a également bénéficié du programme de renforcement des capacités financé par la Fondation Goldman et mis en œuvre par le MBG Madagascar. Cette formation lui a permis d’approfondir ses compétences techniques et de renforcer ses compétences en matière de gestion des aires protégées terrestes en 2008

Son implication dans la mise en place et le suivi des pépinières, la production de plants indigènes et les activités de restauration a contribué de manière significative aux efforts de conservation menés dans la région SAVA.

Au-delà de ses responsabilités professionnelles, Norbert restera dans nos mémoires comme un collègue dévoué, apprécié pour sa disponibilité, sa gentillesse, son esprit d’équipe et son profond attachement aux valeurs de conservation et de service aux communautés locales.

En ces moments douloureux, le MBG Madagascar adresse ses sincères condoléances à sa famille, à ses proches, à ses collègues ainsi qu’à l’ensemble de ses collaborateurs. Nous partageons cette peine et exprimons toute notre sympathie.

Dans le cadre du projet Fitantanana Maharitra Holovain-jafy (FMH), financé par le Gouvernement Britannique à travers le Biodiverse Landscapes Fund (BLF), un atelier majeur de partage sur l’outil Community Score Card (CSC) s’est tenu ce 3 juin.
⚙️Plus qu’une simple évaluation, le CSC est un outil participatif permanent pour l’appréciation, la planification, le suivi et l’évaluation de services ; un outil de redevabilité et de gestion des plaintes.
🗣️Il est aussi est un puissant levier de dialogue et de transparence. Cet outil permet aux communautés locales de passer du statut de bénéficiaires passifs à celui d'évaluateurs actifs, capables de mesurer directement la qualité des services environnementaux et publics. Les retours et perceptions du terrain sont directement documentés en plan d’action de redressement et pris en compte par les parties prenantes
✍️Des actions concrètes : L’atelier ne s'est pas arrêté aux constats. Nous avons identifié des recommandations à mettre en œuvre, et priorisé les services relatifs à la gestion des Aires Protégés en vue de la facilitation de l’intégration du processus CSC.
🌱La gestion durable de notre biodiversité ne peut se faire sans une redevabilité sociale forte. En renforçant la confiance mutuelle entre l'État, le projet et les populations, nous posons les bases d’une conservation juste, inclusive et pérenne.

As part of the Fitantanana Maharitra Holovain-jafy (FMH) project, funded by the UK International Development through the Biodiverse Landscapes Fund (BLF), a major workshop on the Community Score Card (CSC) tool was held on 3rd June.
⚙️More than just an assessment, the CSC is an ongoing participatory tool for the assessment, planning, monitoring and evaluation of services; a tool for accountability and complaint management.
🗣️It is also a powerful lever for dialogue and transparency. This tool enables local communities to move from being passive beneficiaries to active evaluators, capable of directly measuring the quality of environmental and public services. Feedback and perceptions from the field are directly documented in a remedial action plan and considered by stakeholders.
✍️Concrete actions: The workshop did not stop at simply identifying issues. We identified recommendations to be implemented and prioritised services relating to the management of Protected Areas with a view to facilitating the integration of the CSC process.
🌱The sustainable management of our biodiversity cannot be achieved without strong social accountability. By strengthening mutual trust between the State, the project and local communities, we are laying the foundations for fair, inclusive and sustainable conservation.
