The Island of Hope is a no profit organisation which operates in Colonita, few km from Chisinau the capital of Moldova. Colonita dog shelter's main area of work is the protection of street animals in Chisinau. This is done by providing shelter, food and medical care, as well as countering the overpopulation of street animals by using humane methods. Furthermore we seek to inform Moldova’s inhabita
nts on the situation in which street animals find themselves, and tries to create an environment in which people and animals can coexist. Even though the Moldovan government for some years already promises to improve their ways of handling stray animals, until this day their tactics are brutal and violent. Dogs get poisoned on the streets, and they are gassed and burned in a special government facility. Colonita Dog Shelter takes in all the stray dogs in need of help and tries to find them an adoption home.
