May 3 – World Press Freedom Day
Today, we pay tribute to all those who, often at the risk of their lives, defend the right to inform and to be informed. Proclaimed by the United Nations General Assembly, this day serves as a reminder of the fundamental importance of press freedom — a cornerstone of any democracy — and reaffirms Article 19 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
In 2024, UNESCO awarded its World Press Freedom Prize to all Palestinian journalists reporting from Gaza, in recognition of their courage amid extremely dangerous conditions.
On this May 3, we honor the commitment of all journalists, especially those working in crisis zones. Your voice matters. Your work is vital.
3 ماي – اليوم العالمي لحرية الصحافة
نُحيّي اليوم كل من يدافع، وغالبًا ما يكون ذلك على حساب حياته، عن الحق في الإخبار والحصول على المعلومات. لقد أعلنت الجمعية العامة للأمم المتحدة هذا اليوم مناسبة لتذكير العالم بالأهمية الأساسية لحرية الصحافة، التي تُعد حجر الزاوية لأي ديمقراطية، ولتجديد التأكيد على المادة 19 من الإعلان العالمي لحقوق الإنسان.
في سنة 2024، منحت اليونسكو جائزتها العالمية لحرية الصحافة لجميع الصحفيين الفلسطينيين الذين يغطّون الأحداث في غزة، اعترافًا بشجاعتهم في ظل أوضاع شديدة الخطورة.
في هذا الثالث من ماي، نُجدد تحيتنا لكل الصحفيين، وخاصة أولئك الذين يعملون في مناطق الأزمات. صوتكم مهم. وعملكم لا غنى عنه.
3 mai – Journée mondiale de la liberté de la presse
Aujourd’hui, nous rendons hommage à toutes celles et ceux qui, souvent au péril de leur vie, défendent le droit d’informer et d’être informé. Proclamée par l’Assemblée générale des Nations unies, cette journée rappelle l’importance de la liberté de la presse, pierre angulaire de toute démocratie, et consacre l’article 19 de la Déclaration universelle des droits de l’Homme.
En 2024, l’UNESCO a décerné son Prix mondial de la liberté de la presse à l’ensemble des journalistes palestiniens couvrant Gaza, en reconnaissance de leur courage face à des conditions extrêmement périlleuses.
En ce 3 mai, nous saluons l’engagement de tous les journalistes, en particulier ceux qui œuvrent dans des contextes de crise. Votre voix compte. Votre travail est essentiel.
