Our club was honored to take part in Italian Design Day, graciously invited by the Italian Ambassador. Centered around the theme “Lire la nature et protéger sa culture,” the event was a meaningful celebration of the connection between design, nature, and cultural heritage. An inspiring exchange of ideas that reminded us of the power of creativity in protecting our planet and preserving identity.

في اليوم العالمي للغة العربية، نحتفل بلغة تحمل بين حروفها إرثًا ثقافيًا عميقًا، وتاريخًا طويلًا من الإبداع والفكر. هي لغة الشعر والفلسفة، لغة العلوم والفنون، تروي قصص الحضارات وتعكس تنوع الشعوب. اليوم هو فرصة لتقدير جمال هذه اللغة التي تتجاوز الحدود وتجمع بين الثقافات المختلفة، وللتأكيد على أهميتها في التواصل بين الأجيال وفي إثراء المعرفة الإنسانية. كل كلمة عربية تحمل عبق الماضي وأمل المستقبل، وها نحن اليوم نحتفل بها بكل فخر واعتزاز.

📌Thinking Language and Thought Seminar 📌

Professor El Haloui’s section took the form of an interactive workshop centered on the theme of food in Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet. The workshop’s aim was to explore how our imaginations align with historical reality, encouraging participants to experience the connection between sensory perception and literary symbolism.

Guided by Professor El Haloui’s supervisees, participants had the opportunity to taste marzipan, a sweet made from almonds that holds significant cultural symbolism. Historically, marzipan was a luxury reserved for the wealthy and was even believed to have medicinal properties. Tasting it allowed participants to bridge imagination with sensory experience, making the workshop a memorable and immersive journey into the sensory landscape of Shakespeare’s time.

This hands-on approach was both enlightening and enjoyable, adding a tangible dimension to the study of literature and creating an unforgettable experience for all involved.

📌Thinking Language and Thought Seminar 📌

One of the most fascinating points raised in this seminar was the emerging field of neuro-literature, an uncharted area bridging literature and neuroscience. This relatively new field, which explores how language—particularly literary language—affects the brain at a neuronal level, was introduced through research conducted by Mohamed Janah, the president of the Art and Literature Club. Janah’s work delves into how literary language can stimulate neurons, potentially expanding their size, breadth, and capacity for synaptic transfer.

As a field, neuro-literature remains largely unexplored, especially in its application to literature. Janah is passionate about this pioneering work with a central focus on neuroaesthetics. The latter aims to reveal how the aesthetic qualities of language can reshape cognitive processes. This area has profound implications for both literary studies and neuroscience.

📌Thinking Language and Thought Seminar 📌
The seminar “Thinking Language and Thought,” organized by the LERMA and LIMPACT laboratories along with the Art and Literature Club at the Faculty of Letters and Humanities, Cadi Ayyad University, was a standout event exploring the connections between thought, language, and the cognitive and cultural factors that shape language—factors that are often taken for granted. Coordinated by Professors Boughoulid, El Haloui, and Hammani, this seminar offered a rich platform for intellectual exchange.

The seminar was divided into two main sessions. The first session featured presentations from second-year master’s students, who addressed diverse topics such as linguistic relativity and the advantages of bilingualism and multilingualism. The second session was dedicated to the scientific committee, diving into more specialized analyses.

One unique focus of the event was on the role of food imagery in Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet, which was highlighted in the final part of the seminar. This discussion will be explored further in upcoming posts. Stay tuned for more insights!

This Model UN would have been nothing more than a distant dream without the incredible person in this photo, Mr Mohamed Janah , the president of the Art and Literature Club and the driving force behind our journey to such a prestigious stage.

Mohamed, whose last name means ‘wing’ in Arabic, has truly been our wing throughout this experience, lifting us to new heights with his relentless dedication, fierce passion, and unwavering belief in us.

Mohamed, today we’re more than proud; we’re deeply inspired by your leadership and humbled by your example.
