To better understand what CCDM is, a little history is involved. The idea to teach Peer Education (critical thinking skills/education) was inspired by James Carcilli and Mark Feldman, two fellow Peace Corps Volunteers. They developed a manual and an effective and proven method on how to implement Peer Education effectively in Morocco. The project proved to be a success but was in need of supervisi
on. Once Peace Corps discontinued their Health and Environment programs in Morocco, the program faded. It is my goal to bring Peer Education back to Morocco as the skills taught are invaluable. The ability to understand the world using critical thinking methods as well as understanding topics in a comprehensive way ( such as health, environment, women's rights, HIV/AIDS, transmission). I have conducted an Institutional Ethnography on Peer Education during my Masters degree in order to learn how to help the program be more effective and help more people. Students will be given certificates from the Ministry of Health showing their completion of the 14 week long project as well as being eligible to have a bathroom built for them in their local community (as the children are from different villages, this a boarding school making the information go much further than I could ever teach it). In addition to teaching, I will be working with Azizeddine, the president of a local association in Ouaouizert, Morocco. He has identified many projects that are in need of good action plans and funding that include waste management, water sanitation, bathroom building and many other projects that are brought before his association. He is a upstanding member of his community. He has received his Bachelor's degree in Geography. I have known him for many years . Due to the long history I have with Azizedine, and having seen his passion for the betterment of his community, it is my desire to return and partner with him in completing these projects.
