At Iringa Innovation Week, students from schools supported by Lyra in Africa are showcasing projects they developed after receiving hands on training in technology, STEM, electronics, and practical problem solving.

What we are seeing today is more than an exhibition it is the result of learning, experimentation, creativity, and teamwork. The students have taken the knowledge and skills gained through their training and transformed them into tangible projects that respond to real world challenges.

At Lyra in Africa, we believe that when young people are given the opportunity to learn by doing, they don’t just gain skills they become innovators.

Today, we celebrate their journey from training, to creating, to showcasing their ideas to the world at Ruaha Catholic University

Lyra in Africa, with the support of Ride25, proudly marked the successful completion of the technical phase of the Youth Entrepreneurship and Vocational Skills Program in Iringa.

Over the course of the program, 131 young people from four villages gained practical vocational and entrepreneurship skills designed to prepare them for sustainable livelihoods. We celebrated the graduation of 120 youth, each receiving a certificate in recognition of their hard work and dedication.

To help transform skills into thriving businesses, 66 graduates were equipped with start up kits tailored to their chosen vocational pathways, including chicks, poultry feed, horticulture seeds, sewing machines, and salon equipment.

This is more than a graduation ceremony it’s the beginning of new businesses, brighter futures, and stronger communities. We are proud of every graduate and excited to see the impact they will create.

From earning just TZS 5,000 a day through casual farm work to building a thriving mushroom business, this is the story of Lucy Joseph Sanga. 🍄

At 27 years old and a mother of four, Lucy chose to rewrite her future through the Self-Employment Training (SET) Program by Lyra in Africa and Swisscontact . What started with a dream, practical training, and an initial capital of TZS 100,000 has grown into a sustainable business, providing her family with a stable monthly income and renewed hope.

“I never realized that the mushrooms growing around me could actually be a business opportunity.”

Today, Lucy proudly holds the product of her hard work a symbol of resilience, determination, and the power of opportunity. She is not only transforming her own life but inspiring others in her community to believe that self-employment can change lives.

At Lyra in Africa, we believe that when women are equipped with skills, knowledge, and opportunity, they become catalysts for lasting change.

Meet Elizabeth a member of UFANIS GROUP which ie empowered by and at Kiwere village. She began contributing regularly alongside other group members. When she saw the benefits of saving and investing through the group, she encouraged her husband to support her journey by increasing her contributions.
Today, their commitment has paid off. Through the power of collective savings and financial discipline, Elizabeth has built her own house, purchased motorcycles, and invested in a pool table business that generates income for her family.
Her journey shows that small, consistent contributions can lead to life-changing opportunities.
At Lyra in Africa, we are proud to support communities like UFANISI that are creating pathways to economic empowerment, resilience, and prosperity.
