Our sincere thanks to all our Media and Advertising Partners — Rīgas Dome, Latvian National Museum of Art, Media Port, JCDecaux, Visual Media, and TVNET — for helping bring Riga Art Week campaign to audiences across the city and beyond.

Riga Art Week (RAW) is organised by the Galleries Association of Latvia in collaboration with the Riga Investment and Tourism Agency.

RAW Days 6 and 7 brought Tobias Gutmann (Zurich, Switzerland) and his portrait-action Face-O-Mat to the Mākslas muzejs RĪGAS BIRŽA

Since 2013, Tobias Gutmann has travelled the world with his “Face-o-mat project”, transforming the simple act of portrait drawing into an innovative interface for human connection and exploring how technology has influenced us to assemble and portray an identity that puts us in the best light.

During RAW, Face-O-Mat was realised for the first time in collaboration with artists Aleksandra Merbaha and Elīna Eihmane, following a one-day training and handover of the practice.

Many thanks to Tobias Gutmann for this wonderful experience. Thanks to Aleksandra Merbaha, Elīna Eihmane, and Mākslas muzejs RĪGAS BIRŽA for providing the space and support.

RAW sestajā un septītajā dienā Mākslas muzejs RĪGAS BIRŽA norisinājās Tobias Gutmann (Cīrihe, Šveice) portretu zīmēšanas akcija Face-O-Mat

Kopš 2013. gada Tobias Gutmann (Šveice) ar projektu “Face-o-Mat” apceļo pasauli, pārvēršot vienkāršo portreta zīmēšanu īpašā satikšanās pieredzē un pētot, kā tehnoloģijas ietekmējušas veidu, kā mēs veidojam un atklājam savu identitāti.

RAW laikā Face-O-Mat pirmo reizi tika īstenots sadarbībā ar māksliniecēm Aleksandru Merbahu un Elīnu Eihmani, kuras pēc vienas dienas apmācībām Tobiasa vadībā pašas iesaistījās akcijā, zīmējot portretus līdzās projekta autoram.

Sirsnīgs paldies Tobias Gutmann par šo brīnišķīgo pieredzi. Paldies Aleksandrai Merbahai, Elīnai Eihmanei un Mākslas muzejs RĪGAS BIRŽA par telpu un atbalstu.

Moments from Justina Semčenkaitė’s fashion workshop “Wearable Manifesto” at Zuzeum, which took place on last day of RAW.

This interactive workshop, led by Lithuanian fashion designer and researcher Justina Semčenkaitė, explored fashion as a language of identity, power, and self-expression. Drawing on feminist philosophy, sustainability, and activist practice, the session invited participants to critically reflect on what clothing communicates within social and cultural contexts.

Šī interaktīvā darbnīca pētīja modi kā identitātes, varas un pašizpausmes valodu. Balstoties uz feministisko filozofiju, ilgtspēju un aktīvisma praksi, nodarbība aicināja dalībniekus kritiski izvērtēt, ko apģērbs komunicē sociālajā un kultūras kontekstā.

On RAW Day 6, HA, a performance by Jana Jacuka, took place at at NOASS

“A friend of a friend put a hand around me, ha, I’m feeling insecure but I just went hahahaha.”

In everyday situations, our boundaries are often crossed, leaving us unsure of how to respond. HA explores the performativity of laughter as an escaping mechanism.

By stripping away theatrical distractions, Jana Jacuka’s solo work emphasizes the raw and essential elements of performance, inviting the audience to engage with the visceral experience of extreme vocal practices. HA is an investigation of the voice as a choreographic tool. In HA the voice becomes an extension of the body. She grunts, fry-screams, speaks while inhaling and shifts into communication beyond words.

RAW sestajā dienā norisinājās Janas Jacukas performance “HA” NOASS telpās

“Kāda drauga draugs aplika roku ap mani, ha, es jutos neērti, bet atbildēju - hahahaha.”

Ikdienas situācijās mūsu robežas bieži tiek pārkāptas, atstājot mūs neziņā, kā reaģēt. Izrāde HA pēta smieklu performativitāti kā izbēgšanas mehānismu. Tā aicina un iedrošina uzticēties savām sajūtām kā leģitīmai uztveres formai. HA pēta balsi kā horeogrāfisku izteiksmes līdzekli. HA meklē veidus, kā balss var kļūt par ķermeņa pagarinājumu. HA rūc, kliedz, šņāc un runā ieelpojot, ļaujot valodai pārtapt par komunikāciju ārpus vārdiem.

Over 30 art spaces took part, offering a unique opportunity to discover new exhibitions, enjoy a relaxed evening stroll, and experience Riga’s art scene beyond regular opening hours. Visitors explored exhibition openings, pop-up events, curator-led tours, performances, and had the chance to meet artists.

For the first time, RAW’s main partner, Signet Bank, presented the Signet Bank Award for Artistic Excellence, worth EUR 1,500. The award was granted to choreographer and performance artist Jana Jacuka for her performance HA, in which the artist’s voice becomes the central medium for exploring laughter as a mechanism of escape.

Šogad pirmo reizi RAW ietvaros festivāla galvenais partneris Signet Banka pasniedza Mākslas izcilības balvu 1500 eiro apmērā. Moments from the performance “To Dust: A Memorial for Robot Vacuum Cleaners” by Rosie Gibbens (UK), which took place on Friday at VERDE office complex 🎭

Rosie Gibbens (UK) presented a performance from her ongoing series Technocreep, exploring the intersections of intimacy, labour, and surveillance within domestic technologies and robotics. Combining absurdity with speculative ritual, the work imagines a near future in which broken robot vacuum cleaners are mourned through elaborate funeral ceremonies and memorial objects cast from their discarded parts. Inspired by real accounts of owners forming emotional attachments to household robots, the performance reflects on how technological dependency reshapes human relationships with everyday objects. Through irony, dark humour, and ritualistic staging, the piece examines how emotional attachment and consumer technology increasingly intertwine.

The performance was created in collaboration with dancers Lelde Beate and Sintija Skrabe.

Rosie Gibbens prezentēja performanci no savas darbu sērijas „Technocreep“, kurā pēta intimitātes, darba un datu uzraudzības krustpunktus sadzīves tehnoloģiju un robotikas kontekstā. Apvienojot absurdo ar spekulatīvu rituālu, darbs attēlo tuvu nākotni, kurā par salauztiem robotu putekļsūcējiem tiek sērots, rīkojot bēru ceremonijas un veidojot piemiņas priekšmetus no to izmesto detaļu atliekām. Iedvesmojoties no reāliem stāstiem par īpašniekiem, kuri izveidojuši emocionālu saikni ar sadzīves robotiem, performancē tiek pārdomāts, kā atkarība no tehnoloģijām pārveido cilvēku attiecības ar ikdienas priekšmetiem.
