RAW presents: Justina Semčenkaitė’s fashion workshop “Wearable Manifesto”

Make your own wearable manifesto!

This interactive workshop, led by Lithuanian fashion designer and researcher Justina Semčenkaitė, explores fashion as a language of identity, power, and self-expression. Drawing on feminist philosophy, sustainability, and activist practice, the session invites participants to critically reflect on what clothing communicates within social and cultural contexts.

The workshop begins with visual references and discussion, examining how fashion operates within systems of consumption, identity formation, and activism. In the hands-on part, participants will create their own wearable manifesto — a personal protest object — using a range of simple materials.

Combining critical thinking with practical experimentation, the workshop offers tools to move from passive consumption towards conscious expression.

Balstoties uz feministisko filozofiju, ilgtspēju un aktīvisma praksi, nodarbība aicina dalībniekus kritiski izvērtēt, ko apģērbs komunicē sociālajā un kultūras kontekstā.

Darbnīca sākas ar vizuāliem piemēriem un diskusiju, analizējot, kā mode darbojas patēriņa, identitātes veidošanās un aktīvisma sistēmās. Praktiskajā daļā dalībnieki radīs savu valkājamo manifestu — personīgu protesta objektu — izmantojot dažādus vienkāršus materiālus.

Apvienojot kritisko domāšanu ar praktisku eksperimentēšanu, darbnīca piedāvā rīkus, kas palīdz pāriet no pasīva patēriņa uz apzinātu pašizpausmi.

RAW presents: Darja Popolitova – performative workshop “3D Jewellery Fortune Telling”

3D-Jewellery Fortune Telling is a performative workshop that unfolds between a 3D modelling session and a magical ritual.

In the space, you encounter Seraphita - a jewellery witch seated behind a laptop, surrounded by candles and a softly humming printer. She wears a wig and garments, while a screen behind her mirrors every movement on her computer, turning the process into a shared visual experience. Seraphita invites visitors to take part in a guided 3D-session where digital making meets fortune telling, and participants receive personalized readings based on their own 3D-designed forms.

Explore multiple exhibitions at the Riga Photography Biennial during RAW

The Riga Photography Biennial (RPB) is an international contemporary art event that focuses on the analysis and artistic representation of visual culture. In the title of the Biennial, photography is used as an umbrella term for a wide variety of artistic practices in image-making that continue to transform the language of contemporary art in the 21st century. The biennial’s themes range from cultural theory to current sociopolitical processes in the Baltic and European regions.

Rīgas Fotogrāfijas biennāle ir starptautisks laikmetīgās mākslas notikums, kas fokusējas uz vizuālās kultūras analīzi un māksliniecisku reprezentāciju. RAW presents: Jana Jacuka performance “HA”

Jana Jacuka (1995) is a Latvian choreographer and performer, based in Amsterdam, Masters degree graduate at DAS Theater. She is curious to create performances almost out of nothing and uses her body, voice and text as the departure points. For the past two years, she has been exploring the voice and the letters H and A. She investigates how the voice can become an extension of the body — like another limb with which to create choreography.

Her works have been presented at Frascati (NL), DansBrabant (NL), the AUAwirleben Festival (CH), Kanuti Gildi Saal and SAAL Biennaal (EE), the Homo Novus festival (LV), among others.

As a performer and co-thinker she has collaborated with artists such as Marina Abramović, Dries Verhoeven, Arno Schuitemaker and many others.

RAW is looking for artists and art students to participate in FACE-O-MAT, the internationally recognised live drawing performance by Tobias Gutmann, taking place during Riga Art Week at the Art Museum Riga Bourse on May 30–31, 2026.

FACE-O-MAT is a travelling performance where drawing becomes a direct, one-on-one encounter. Visitors sit down and receive a quick portrait created in real time, an intuitive, expressive interpretation rather than a realistic depiction.

Selected participants will receive hands-on training with Tobias Gutmann on May 29 and take part in a two-day live portrait performance creating 7-minute intuitive drawings of visitors.

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR

- Artists or art students with strong drawing skills
- Experience in free drawing, illustration, or portraiture
- Ability to work quickly and intuitively
- Openness to presence, focused attention, and a meditative approach to drawing
- Interest in live interaction with visitors

Academic drawing is not required. We value an open, playful approach and personal expression over realism. Face-o-matis a mindful practice: presence and breath shape every portrait, drawing not only what one sees but what one senses.

ABOUT THE PERFORMANCE

Selected participants will:
- Create 7 minute portraits of visitors on the spot, using the Tobias Gutmann’s customised Face-o-mat calligraphy pens and coloured ink
- Work within a live performance format across two days
- Engage in one-on-one encounters with visitors
- Translate observation into immediate, expressive drawings

RAW presents: FACE-O-MAT by Tobias Gutmann () (Zurich, Switzerland).

Since 2013, Tobias Gutmann has travelled the world with his “Face-o-mat project”, transforming the simple act of portrait drawing into an innovative interface for human connection and exploring how technology has influenced us to assemble and portray our identity.

The act of drawing has become a ritual in which the artist manifests and translates encounters through his hands. This process of looking closely, listening deeply and breathing together, goes beyond representation, revealing the presence behind the face.

So far the project has been presented in more than 38 cities worldwide, including Centre Pompidou in Paris and Art Central in Hong Kong. Over the project’s lifetime, the artist has created more than 5,500 portraits.

Don’t miss the chance to meet the artist in person and get your own portrait drawing by Tobias and the Face-o-mat artists. Come with your family, children, and friends to experience “Face-o-mat” together.

As part of RAW, visit “Between Reflections and Recollections” – a joint exhibition by Kaisu Koivisto (Helsinki) () and Vineta Kaulača (Riga) () at , developed from the collaborative project Double Vision, presented in autumn 2025 at Galeriaia in Helsinki.

The exhibition explores how human perception is shaped and transformed through personal memory, collective experience, and cultural context. Through painting, photography, sculpture, and mixed-media works, it creates a multilayered visual dialogue where reflection, interpretation, and distortion reveal unseen dimensions of reality.

Inviting viewers to reflect on the subjectivity of perception, the exhibition considers how images, space, and experience shape our understanding of reality – layered, fluid, and continually shifting.

Curated by Ilze Žeivate, the exhibition is part of the programme (25–31 May 2026), with a finissage on 31 May and an opportunity to meet the artist.
