What can whales and dolphins teach us—if we learn to listen?

That’s the question Dr. Anna Schleimer explored during her presentation, “Stemmen aus der Déift: D’Geheimsprooch vu Walen an Delfinen,” at

Anna shared insights into the secret world of marine mammal communication, drawing on her research in baleen whale biology and population ecology across the North Atlantic and Mediterranean.

From whale sharks in the Philippines to fin whales in Québec, her work spans continents—and her stories captured the audience’s imagination.

Through soundscapes and science, she reminded us that listening—really listening—is one of the most powerful tools we have for understanding and protecting our ocean.

A big thank you to Anna for sharing your expertise and making the deep more accessible to all.

Odyssea asbl wënscht ee schéinen Nationalfeierdag! 🇱🇺 Wosst dir datt de Grand-Duc Henri scho mat Haie getaucht ass a sech immens fir d’Ozeaner interesséiert?

De ganzen Interview fannt dir am Podcast “Ancrage” dee wärend dem Event “ L’Océan s’invite au Luxembourg” opgeholl gouf.

Dëst war ee Projet vun IMS Luxembourg an der Fondation 1 Ocean fir och Länner ouni direkt Küst op d’Wichtegkeet vum Ozean ze sensibiliséieren.

What do lake algae blooms have to do with the ocean?

That’s exactly what Dr. Philip Bertemes , biologist at Sebes.lu, unpacked during his engaging talk at

In his eye-opening presentation, “Le piège des nutriments: la prolifération des algues – du réservoir d'eau potable à l'océan,” Philip connected the dots between cyanobacteria outbreaks in Lac de la Haute-Sûre and the health of our seas.

With clarity and impact, he showed how excess nutrients in freshwater systems don’t just stop at the lake—they flow through rivers and into the ocean, contributing to marine imbalances.

A powerful reminder that even inland, our choices shape the sea.

💧Thank you Philip Bertemes for making complex science so accessible and thought-provoking. Your talk sparked important conversations—exactly what is all about.

What does it mean to dive with purpose?

That’s exactly what Helene-Julie Zofia Paamand 🌊 invited us to reflect on during her talk at

In her moving presentation, “Diving with a Purpose,” Helene shared how she uses underwater photography and scientific diving to reconnect people with the ocean—and remind us that every action counts.

As Denmark’s self-renowned Underwater Ambassador, Helene brought stories of marine restoration to life and showed how anyone can turn their passion into action for the sea—whether you’re a diver, a traveler, or simply someone who cares.

We’re so grateful to Helene for making the 14-hour train journey from Copenhagen to join us in Luxembourg. Your presence inspired many—thank you!

How is a landlocked country like Luxembourg connected to the ocean?

That’s the question Sophie Schönherr explored during her powerful talk at

🎙️ In “Out of Sight, Out of Mind: Luxembourg’s Inconspicuous Connections to the Ocean,” Sophie walked the audience through how Luxembourg’s daily choices—from what we consume to how we manage water—are linked to global marine systems.

A marine illustrator, science communicator, and MSc graduate in Applied Marine Biology, Sophie has contributed to marine conservation in over 10 countries across 5 continents. Her presentation—delivered in German on Saturday and English on Sunday—left many reflecting on the unseen ripple effects of life in a landlocked nation.

💡 A huge thank you to Sophie for sharing her insights and reminding us that ocean stewardship doesn’t start at the coast—it starts with awareness.
