The Luxembourg Amateur Radio Union was founded on January 1st 2014 by three luxemburgish amateur radio operators. The reason for this was the desire for an association, which promotes technical progress and cohesion of amateur radio operators seriously. The LARU therefore constitutes an innovative network of technology-inspired radio amateurs and other interested parties. LARU's value pillars are the following:

friendship, democracy, science and progress. Our logo incidentally indicates the desired progress: The unusual horizontally arranged antenna represents a forward-looking arrow. The focus is not limited to new techniques or modes. However, the LARU has the following priorities:

Emergency communications
Digital voice communications
Digital data transmission
Science
Education

Some of these areas were hardly or not being taken care of at all in Luxembourg. The LARU changed this situation during the last years. Therefore, the areas in question have been treated in permanent working groups (digital voice communications, digital data transmission, emergency communications, education, QSL bureau). In order to achieve the desired objectives, the LARU is divided into working groups, which are each dedicated to one of these priorities. This structure facilitates the organization and planning of projects. An important task of the LARU is to represent its members nationally and internationally. Amateur radio operators and other interested parties, which are dedicated to the technological progress and which want to be supported by a corresponding association, are welcome within the LARU.

🇱🇺 Dëse Weekend huet d'LARU op en Neits um ING Marathon an der Stad Lëtzebuerg deel geholl a 14 Streckeposten um Circuit an den Asaz geschéckt. Gutt vernetzt iwwert eisen Digitalfunkréseau konnte mir mat fir d'Sécherheet vun de Leefer an de Passanten schaffen.

🇬🇧 This weekend the LARU once again took part in the ING Marathon in Luxembourg-City. We sent 14 track marshals on the circuit. Well connected via our digital radio network, we were able to work together for the safety of the runners and pedestrians.

An de leschten 2 Woche konnt d'LARU hiren 3ten a 4te Repeater an dat lëtzebuergescht Meshcore-Netz abréngen. Aus dem Zentrum iwwer de Westen, hu mir eis an den Norde viru geschafft. Eis Repeater sinn alleguer ënnerenee verbonnen a stellen domat e kleng Réckgrat fir d'Noutkommunikatioun via Meshcore duer.
Ma domat ass et awer net gedoen: an dësem Netz sinn däitlech méi Repeater noutwenneg an dozou ka jidderee säin Deel bäidroen. Benotze kann dat Netz och jiddereen, et ass nämlech kee Produit aus dem Amateurfunk.

Alles an Allem bitt Meshcore eng immens Opportunitéit als Noutkommunikatiounstool bei Ausfall vun Infrastruktur. Hei kann d'Zivilbevölkerung zesummen un engem fiabelen a robuste Kommunikatiounsmëttel schaffen💪. Wat wëlle mir méi? 🙂

🇬🇧 *Update Meshcore off-grid network*
During the las 2 weeks, the LARU has been able to bring its 3rd and 4th repeater into the Luxembourgish Meshcore network. From the center to the west, we have worked our way to the north. Our repeaters are all interconnected and thus represent a small backbone for emergency communication via Meshcore.
But that's not all: this network requires significantly more repeaters and everyone can contribute to this. Anyone can use the network, as it is not a product of amateur radio.

All in all, Meshcore offers a huge opportunity as an emergency communication tool in the event of infrastructure failure. Here, the civilian population can work together on a reliable and robust way of communication💪. What more do we want? 🙂

Yesterday, LARU was able to activate another repeater for Luxembourg’s Meshcore network. This one is located in the western part of Luxembourg and should connect smaller repeaters in this region as well as companions to other regions.

The Meshcore network offers many opportunities, one of the most important of which is that it is license-free and can be used and extended by anyone. Everyone can contribute to an independent off-grid network💪. What more do we want? :-)

🇬🇧 *First Meshcore Repeater from LARU*
The LARU emergency communications group has put its first Meshcore repeater into operation in the center of the country. After several months of analysis (various protocols, hardware, possible locations, ...), the first repeaters were built. These are now gradually being put into operation. The LARU is happy to contribute a piece to this great and important project. A project that everyone can participate in. With the aim of building an off-grid network in the event of disasters/communication failures, it should be possible to participate even without an amateur radio license. June: it's that time of the year were a lot of candidates find their way to the ILR in Luxembourg-City and thus take the final step towards obtaining their license as an amateur radio operator. We are pleased that our preparation courses were once again so well attended, but we would like to point out that you can still register spontaneously without having participated in a preparation course. Be sure to pay attention to the deadline of April 14, 2026.
