They should do this here!!!
The Netherlands is moving towards a nationwide ban on consumer fireworks, with plans for it to come into effect from the 2026–27 New Year period.
The decision marks a major shift in how the country marks New Year’s Eve, ending the long-standing tradition of individuals buying and setting off fireworks themselves. Instead, celebrations are expected to move towards organised, professionally run displays under tighter regulation.
The move follows years of debate, driven mainly by concerns around public safety, pressure on emergency services, and the growing impact on animal welfare. Each year, fireworks have been linked to serious injuries, fires and widespread distress among pets, wildlife and farm animals.
Lawmakers have framed the ban as a practical response to these issues, reflecting a wider rethink about how celebrations can take place without causing harm or disruption.
