The Statutes of the European Lawyers' Union define its principal aims:
To promote the practice of community law and of the law surrounding the European Convention for the protection on Human Rights and fundamental freedoms. To promote professional European practice, the right of establishment and the freedom to provide services. To promote the harmonization of legislation, professional custom and
professional ethics governing lawyers of members states of the European Union. To allow practitioners to develop contacts both between themselves and with the European institutions. In the context of the European Union, the European Lawyers' Union (U.A.E.) Its conferences, publications and meetings are designed to address both academic and practical issues and to establish convenient places where lawyers of our different legal systems can meet.
