It's National Volunteer Appreciation Week! Here at the Luxembourg American Cultural Society, we have many amazing volunteers and would not be where we are today without all of their support!

Today we thank Rachel for all that she does! Rachel recently began volunteering with the Luxembourg American Cultural Society in February of this year! She has also been working hard with the Vern Arendt Collection to ensure its continued preservation. She reviews physical photographs, and ensures materials are properly sorted, labeled, and stored. Her work supports improved access to and long-term preservation of the collection for research, exhibitions, and educational use.

Allen has helped with many projects throughout the years, but most recently he has been working with the organization, cataloguing, and overall preservation of the Vern Arendt Collection. He reviews physical photographs, and ensures materials are properly sorted, labeled, and stored. Check out this decorative plate with text in the Luxembourgish Language for this week's edition of What is it Wednesday W/Red Lion!

This Ceramic Plate has hand painted flowers around the edge and a poem in Luxembourgish that translates to "We are holding tight to our land, With all our strength and thanks, I am a "Luxembourger" child, that word still has a good sound." Plate has a crackle finish, and looks commercially made.

Stay tuned for next week as we explore more items from our collection every Wednesday!

Today, we thank Sandy for all that she does!
Sandy has been a dedicated volunteer with the Luxembourg American Cultural Society since the very beginning when we opened back in 2009! She has helped in many roles from volunteering in the research center to greeting thousands of people at Luxembourg Fest! Recently, she has been working on sorting several hundred funeral cards which she collected over the past couple of years for the research center. These will prove a great addition to the Dooley-Wagner Research collection.

Stay tuned this week, as we will be featuring and thanking those who continually volunteer their time on a weekly basis to help around the museum and center!

Today, we thank Angie for all that she does!
Angie volunteers in the Dooley-Wagner Research Center working with sorting and entering items into the library. She is a dedicated volunteer at the Luxembourg American Cultural Society as she volunteers her time multiple days every week! Recently, she has been working with the family name folders adding new contributions including obituary clippings from the local newspapers. She also scans files converting them to digital copies for our collection archives. Additionally, while volunteering in the research center, she assists people with genealogical research questions.

This past week, we welcomed students in the Luxembourg Exchange Program to visit the Luxembourg American Cultural Society. At the LACS, students toured the museum and explored their Luxembourgish Ancestry in the research center. While in the area, the students also visited St Nicholas Catholic Church, Dacada, WI and Stony Hill School - OCHS.

Today, we thank Michele for everything that she does!
Michele has conducted research for individuals seeking information about their Luxembourg ancestors at the LACS since 2010. Her years of service reflect incredible dedication and commitment. She is available at the center one day a week, but often continues her research from home. Some of her key contributions include:
• Performing multiple research requests for the LACS on a volunteer basis
• Reviewing and proofreading family histories assembled by researchers
• Offering advice on research and training researchers and other volunteers
Michele consistently goes above and beyond her regular volunteer duties, often spending entire days assisting researchers at the center. Her efforts have made the LACS an invaluable community resource for researchers and visitors.

Stay tuned this week, as we will be featuring and thanking those who continually volunteer their time to help around the museum and center!
