Fun Fact Friday! Have you heard of Superjhemp? This superhero was first released to the public in 1988 by scriptwriter Lucien Czuga and the cartoonist Roger Leinerin a comic book series. The series was released in the Luxembourgish Language and is packed full of parallels to Luxembourgish culture. Although he is an anti-hero, Superjhemp’s powers include flight and super strenth which derive from Kachkéis.
This comic series was even turned into a feature length film in 2018, "Superjhemp Retörns" (Superchamp Returns) which is available for streaming online. A statue that was unveiled on June 3, 2023 can be found in Mersch.

This week's edition of What is it Wednesday W/Red Lion features a quilt designed by Sharon Walton paying homage to victims of the Holocaust.

This was designed and quilted by Sharon Walton, who is a fiber artist from Louisiana. Sharon Walton was inspired to design this quilt after she had visited the German Concentration camp at Dachau in 1994. This quilt, along with "Liberation: Threads of Celebration," were put on display at the George C. Marshall Museum in Lexington, Virginia in 1995. The quilt is designed with multi-ciolored triangles and sporatic Stars of David. In the center of the quilt is a Holocaust victim.

Join us for our second virtual program of the Fall 2026 season: "Living Memory Project: Voices of Luxembourg’s Holocaust Survivors" with presenting speaker Dr. Blandine Landau Saturday October 24th, 2026, 10am CT.

Since May 2024, the Zentrum fir politesch Bildung, with the support of its partners, carries out a major campaign to collect testimonies from Holocaust survivors linked to Luxembourg. Nearly 60 interviews were conducted in 8 countries with these people, who were children at the time. Join Blandine Landau as she discusses this project which she is leading.

Fun Fact Friday!
Did you know? There are over 1,950 known graves in the Lake Church St. Mary’s Cemetery in Belgium, WI. Several of these include early Luxembourg American immigrants and their descendents. Walking through this cemetery is like taking a walk through Luxembourg-American history. Every gravestone has a story to tell.

Fun Fact Friday!
Did you know there is a Luxembourg Skeleton team? No, this is not skeleton like bones, rather it’s a unique high-speed winter sliding sport where an individual athlete races head-first on a small sled down a frozen ice track

Luxembourg American athlete, Jeff Bauer began his career at the sole representative on this team 14 years ago! He was the sole representative on this team and after many years competing for the Country on the skeleton circuit, he has now slid into retirement.

Following his retirement, the team is looking for interest from the next generation of athletes to join this team and represent Luxembourg in this sport. Learn more here: https://letzskeleton.com/
