📢 Smart Money Talks: How We Build Real Values and a Financial Future for Young People
Today’s youth are not just imagining the future — they are actively shaping it.

During the webinar “Smart Money Talks: Real Conversations Shaping the Financial Future of Young People”, organized in the context of Global Money Week and the Erasmus+ FinEdu project, experts and partners discussed how early financial education can help transform aspirations into real, informed decisions for the future.

💡 The conversation focused on how young people perceive financial education today, what motivates them, and how we can better support them in developing healthy financial habits from an early age.

👥 Speakers included:
Francesca Mazzieri – Head of Education, JA Italy
Elena-Mădălina Duminică – Mathematics Teacher, European School of Brussels IV
Mihaela Mercier – Lead, Investor Forum at ALFI (Association of the Luxembourg Fund Industry)
Silvia Bogdan – President, Școala de Valori; Coordinator, Education–Research Department; Educational Content Creator
Daniel Eid – Policy Officer, DG FISMA, European Commission
Together, they shared practical insights from education, policy, and financial industry practice, highlighting the importance of equipping young people with tools for responsible financial decision-making.

🎯 The goal was clear: to empower the next generation with the knowledge and confidence to make smart financial choices.

🌍 What happens when young people are given the space, confidence, and tools to act?

A recent article highlights the impact of Empowering Young Changemakers, an Erasmus+ project initiated by L’École des Valeurs, designed to support young people in moving from passive observers of challenges to active drivers of change.

Bringing together 30 young participants from Luxembourg and Romania, the project created a space to identify real community issues, develop practical solutions, and engage directly with decision-makers. From mapping accessibility barriers to rethinking public transport spaces, their initiatives show that change starts with awareness, collaboration, and action.

As Elena Vasilica, President of L’École des Valeurs, shared: “Young people don’t lack ideas, they need the space and confidence to act.”

We are proud to see the work of L’École des Valeurs and the impact of Erasmus+ projects recognized in this feature.

A special thank you to Sarita Rao and Luxembourg Times for supporting educational Erasmus+ initiatives and youth-led projects that empower young people to become changemakers in their communities.

🚀 The FinEdu Training of Trainers journey brought together teachers and facilitators from Romania, Poland, Italy, Luxembourg, and Belgium as part of the Erasmus+ FinEdu project.

During the online sessions, participants explored the financial education curriculum and exchanged non-formal learning methods designed to make financial education more practical and engaging for young people.

The training sessions prepared facilitators for the next stage of the project — delivering workshops for teenagers aged 14–18 and supporting them in developing essential financial skills for everyday life and future decisions.

We were proud to see this European community of educators collaborate and contribute to making financial education more accessible and relevant for young people across Europe. 🌍

🚀 Building financial skills for the next generation starts with empowering teachers.

Last week, following the connections made at Schoulfoire, we had the opportunity to meet and work with teachers from the Lycée Technique de Lallange in a Training of Trainers session focused on financial education.

Together, we explored practical tools and learning approaches that can help young people better understand money, make informed decisions, and develop the confidence needed to navigate an increasingly complex financial world.💰

This activity is part of FinEdu, a European initiative that brings together partners from several countries to strengthen financial education for young people and support educators with innovative resources and methodologies.

💳We are grateful to the teachers for their engagement, curiosity, and willingness to invest in the future of their students. Meaningful change in education happens when schools, educators, and community organisations work together to prepare young people not only for their careers, but for life.

We look forward to building more partnerships with schools and educators who believe in preparing young people for life, not only for exams.

Who said learning about money was boring? To mark 1 June, International Children’s Day celebrated in many parts of the world, we transformed financial education into a fun and engaging experience. Through our Play4FinancialSkills board game, the children became young decision-makers, entrepreneurs, savers, and investors for a day.
The competition was fierce and the questions showed just how curious and thoughtful young minds can be when it comes to money.

After earning and managing their capital throughout the game, the children faced a real-life challenge: how would they divide their money between Education, Wishes, Current Expenses, Donations and Savings?

Their choices revealed something inspiring — many already have a strong understanding of the value of money and the decisions that come with earning and spending it. By observing the world around them, from family conversations to everyday experiences, they are constantly absorbing lessons that shape their financial mindset.

At Play4FinancialSkills, financial literacy comes to life through stories, teamwork, strategy and fun, helping children build skills that will stay with them for years to come.

Many young people are aware of the challenges around them, but often lack the tools, confidence, and opportunities to take action.

This is exactly the gap that the Empowering Young Changemakers project aims to bridge.
As Elena Vasilica, President of L’École des Valeurs L’École and initiator of the project, explains, the initiative was created to support young people in their transition from passive observers to engaged and proactive changemakers.

Bringing together participants from Luxembourg and Romania, the project created a unique learning environment where different realities and perspectives became opportunities for growth and civic engagement.
