Der Welthumanist*innentag erinnert daran, dass Humanismus mehr ist als eine philosophische Idee. Er steht für die Überzeugung, dass alle Menschen die gleiche Würde besitzen und Gesellschaft durch Vernunft, Mitgefühl, Bildung und kritisches Denken gestaltet werden sollte.

Gerade in Zeiten von Polarisierung, Desinformation und gesellschaftlichen Spannungen bleibt dieser Gedanke aktuell. Humanismus fordert dazu auf, Menschen nicht nach Herkunft, Religion oder Status zu bewerten, sondern nach ihrer gemeinsamen Menschlichkeit.

Auch das Zitat von Erasmus von Rotterdam passt bis heute in diesen gesellschaftlichen Diskurs. „Von den Schlechten verlacht zu werden, ist fast ein Lob“ erinnert daran, dass Fortschritt oft mit Widerspruch beginnt. Viele Menschen, die sich für Frieden, Gleichberechtigung oder Menschenrechte eingesetzt haben, wurden zunächst verspottet oder abgelehnt. Humanismus bedeutet deshalb auch, Haltung zu zeigen, kritisch zu denken und Menschlichkeit selbst dann zu verteidigen, wenn Gegenwind entsteht.
