This Saturday we gather in front of the
US embassy to demonstrate for Cuba’s right to sovereignity! Together with the Jonk Lénk and collectives for Palestine we will go on with their march to the city center to stand in solidarity against occupation of any kind!
For over 60 years, the U.S. government has been imposing a draconian embargo on Cuba,
which, according to Cuban estimates, has caused economic damage amounting to 130 trillion
dollars since it took effect and has been condemned by all European nations. In addition to
these measures, following Trump’s directive since the beginning of the year, Cuba has received
no oil shipments, which are urgently needed for the operation and maintenance of basic
infrastructure. Without oil shipments, the transport of goods and people, as well as the national
energy supply, is collapsing. Days-long blackouts, looming food shortages, no garbage
collection, the collapse of medical care, the collapse of the tourism industry—which is vital to
the local economy—the impossibility of maintaining a normal daily life, and the social
consequences for the Cuban population are just some of the consequences of this invisible
warfare. The embargo may be an abstract set of economic regulations, but its concrete effects
cost human lives every day and have been undermining Cuba’s sovereignty for over 60 years.
Recently, the U.S. government has been threatening the island nation with military intervention,
thereby taking the conflict to a new level of escalation.
