These exhibitions are a testament to the resilience, innovation, and potential that exists within communities when they are empowered.

As we continue to mark the Day of the African Child, we elevate the voices of children from a primary school in Pitseng ADP who share their lived experiences of limited access to clean water and safe sanitation.

In this video, children speak openly about the daily challenges they face and what access to safe water truly means to them—health, dignity, and the ability to learn without disruption.

Their message is clear: children must be heard in decisions that affect their lives.

We also amplify the powerful call from child representative Liekolo, who urges urgent action towards universal access to WASH services. Read her full statement here: https://bit.ly/3Ssf65b

On this important day, let us listen to children—not only with attention, but with action.

Today, we join the rest of Africa in commemorating the Day of the African Child under the theme: "Ensuring Universal Access to Water, Sanitation and Hygiene for Every Child in Africa."

At World Vision, we believe that every child has the right to safe water, adequate sanitation, and a clean environment. Access to WASH services is not just a basic need—it is a child rights imperative that enables children to stay healthy, attend school, and reach their full potential.

As we mark this important day, let us renew our commitment to ensuring that no child is left behind in accessing clean water, sanitation, and hygiene services.

Today marked a significant milestone in strengthening livelihoods and creating opportunities for vulnerable households as the Ministry of Gender, Youth and Social Development Lesotho, officially launched the Economic Inclusion Program (EIP) Lot II in Tenesolo Community Council, Thaba-Tseka District.

Implemented by World Vision International Lesotho under the Ministry's Pathways to Sustainable Livelihoods Project and funded by the World Bank, the programme seeks to empower poor and vulnerable households through economic inclusion activities.

Through this initiative, World Vision Lesotho will support 5,000 households across five Community Councils with grants that will enable them to start and grow income-generating businesses. Beneficiaries have already undergone entrepreneurship training and acquired financial literacy skills through the Savings for Transformation (S4T) model, equipping them with the knowledge and confidence to build sustainable livelihoods.

Together, we are creating pathways to self-reliance, resilience, and a brighter future for families and communities across Lesotho.

From Shared Learning to Lasting Impact

Yesterday marked the conclusion of a fruitful exchange visit between the Ministry of Natural Resources Lesotho, World Vision Lesotho, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Energy Eswatini, and World Vision Eswatini.

As part of the visit, the delegation toured two community water systems in Gege and Bulekeni, which were established through a partnership between the Government of Eswatini and World Vision Eswatini. The visit culminated in the official launch of the Bulekeni Water Supply Scheme by the Minister of Natural Resources and Energy Eswatini.

The impact of these water systems was best captured by one community member who shared:

"My child now has time and safety to access water within two minutes at a safe place and never misses or is late to school anymore."

This simple testimony reflects the transformative power of access to clean water for children and their families.
During the launch, the Kingdom of Eswatini expressed appreciation to the Lesotho delegation for the visit and acknowledged the significant water infrastructure projects being implemented in Lesotho.

In his remarks, Honourable Minister Moleko , Minister of Natural Resources Lesotho, expressed gratitude for the opportunity to learn from the strong partnership between the Government of Eswatini and World Vision Eswatini.

He noted that leaders from several ministries, including Health, Finance, Housing, Commerce, and Natural Resources, consistently emphasized that the remarkable progress made in WASH within a short period would not have been possible without their partnership with World Vision Eswatini.

One of the key lessons from the visit was the innovative 50:50 partnership model, where both government and World Vision contribute resources and jointly oversee implementation.
Equally inspiring was the sustainability of the water schemes, with communities managing and maintaining the systems long after project completion.

On the first day on the visit in Eswatini, the delegation visited a water system that has continued to operate successfully for eight years after World Vision's exit, demonstrating the power of community ownership.

As the delegation returns home, the lessons learned will help inform efforts to strengthen collaboration, accelerate progress towards SDG 6, and improve access to safe water for Basotho communities.

The exchange visit may have ended, but the journey towards achieving safe water for all Basotho continues.

📚 Children's hands are meant for books, not labour.

Today, as we join the rest of the world in observing World Day Against Child Labour, we reflect on the progress made through the European Union in Lesotho-funded Accelerating Action for Eliminating Child Labour and Forced Labour (AECFL) project.

Working alongside government and community partners, 71 cases of child labour have been reported through community-based structures and stakeholder engagement. Of these, 26 cases have been fully verified and linked to a range of social support services to address both immediate risks and underlying vulnerabilities affecting children and their families.

These results demonstrate that when communities, government, and development partners work together, we can protect children and create opportunities for them to thrive.

We extend our sincere gratitude to the European Union for supporting efforts to safeguard children's rights and improve their wellbeing.

Together, let's act now to end child labour and ensure every child has the opportunity to learn, play, and reach their full potential.

The Minister of Natural Resources, Honourable Moleko, has joined the delegation from the Ministry of Natural Resources and World Vision Lesotho on an exchange visit hosted by the Ministry of Natural Resources and Energy, Eswatini, and World Vision Eswatini.

Together with the World Vision team, today's engagements included meetings with key Government Ministries in Eswatini, including the Minister of Health, Minister of Natural Resources & Energy, and Minister of Finance & Economic Planning.

These discussions provided a valuable platform for sharing experiences, exploring innovative partnership models, and strengthening collaboration towards sustainable development goal number 6 which focuses on ensuring availability and sustainable management of water and sanitation for all.

The delegation also paid a courtesy call on the Right Honourable Prime Minister of Eswatini, His Excellency Russell Mmiso Dlamini, highlighting the importance of regional partnerships in addressing development challenges and improving the well-being of communities.

Together, we are embracing shared learning and strengthening strategic collaborations that can help transform the lives of the most vulnerable children and communities we serve in both kingdoms.

This week, World Vision Lesotho and the Ministry of Natural Resources, Lesotho, are participating in an exchange visit to Eswatini, hosted by the Ministry of Natural Resources and Energy, Eswatini, and World Vision Eswatini.

The World Vision delegation is led by the National Director, while the Ministry of Natural Resources delegation is led by the Minister, who will join the exchange visit tomorrow. In his absence, the Deputy Principal Secretary is holding fort and leading the Ministry delegation.

The purpose of the visit is to appreciate and learn from the innovative partnership between World Vision Eswatini and the Ministry of Natural Resources, which is contributing to progress towards Sustainable Development Goal 6 (SDG 6) — ensuring availability and sustainable management of water and sanitation for all by 2030.

The exchange visit commenced with an engagement with the Department of Water Affairs, where both teams shared experiences, lessons, and approaches to strengthening access to water and improving the well-being of communities. Importantly, this is not only an opportunity for Lesotho to learn from Eswatini, but also for Eswatini counterparts to learn from experiences and innovations from Lesotho.

As the Ministry of Natural Resources, Lesotho, remains committed to achieving SDG 6, this exchange provides a valuable platform to explore practical and innovative solutions that can contribute to improved access to water and better lives for the people of Lesotho.

Follow our journey as we share lessons and insights from this inspiring exchange.
