As Liberia celebrates 179 years of independence, I join all Liberians in honouring the nation’s proud history, resilience, and hopes for a brighter tomorrow.

Independence reminds us that building a stronger Liberia is a shared responsibility. Every day, people across the country work with dedication to support their families, strengthen communities, and create opportunities for future generations. Their efforts inspire us all.

At BRAC Liberia, our work is guided by the values of empowerment, integrity, inclusiveness, and innovation. With these principles, we remain committed to working closely with communities, partners, and the Government of Liberia to expand opportunities for women, youth, farmers, entrepreneurs, and families nationwide

BRAC Liberia and Ministry of Education Partner to Launch the AIM Education Pathway to Advance Girls’ Education

On July 14, 2026, BRAC Liberia and the Ministry of Education signed a landmark Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to boost girls’ education and empowerment across Liberia! Hosted by the Ministry, the signing ceremony brought together senior government officials and BRAC leaders to formalise a partnership built on expanding life-changing opportunities for adolescent girls.

This exciting partnership officially launches the AIM Education Pathway, a critical component of the regional Mastercard Foundation Accelerating Impact for Young Women in partnership with BRAC (AIM) program. While the global AIM program aims to improve the lives of 2 million young women, our localised initiative in Liberia is designed to empower 40,600 adolescent girls aged 12–17 to build core life skills and complete their lower-secondary education. Over the next four years, this partnership will transform approximately 300 secondary schools across 7 counties (Montserrado, Grand Bassa, Grand Gedeh, B**g, Nimba, Lofa, and Margibi) by introducing Peer Learning Circles (PLCs), gender-responsive teacher training, and financial support for school improvement.

During the ceremony, the Minister of Education, Hon. Dr Jarso Maley Jallah, highlighted that this initiative is both timely and vital for Liberia's development, urging all parties to prioritise transparency, collaborative monitoring, and accountability to ensure tangible progress.

We are already hitting the ground running to achieve these goals, with our immediate focus on verifying 11,500 Cohort 3 participants by July 30, 2026, so they can receive their educational financial support ahead of the new school year.
Together with the Government of Liberia, the Mastercard Foundation, schools, and local communities, we are committed to ensuring every girl has the opportunity to learn, lead, and thrive.

BRAC Liberia held its first hybrid Town Hall Meeting of 2026, bringing together more than 100 staff members from across the organisation.

The session was led by Juvenalius Cyprian Kuruletera, Country Director of BRAC International -Liberia, and the Head of Human Resources, Moureen Nakimuli. They shared key organisational updates and opened the floor for an interactive question and answer session with staff.

The discussion focused on important staff issues, including job titles, performance management systems, salary alignment, and the need to continue recognising staff for their hard work and commitment.

A special highlight of the Town Hall was the announcement of one of the staff promotion reflecting BRAC Liberia’s commitment to valuing growth, dedication, and contribution within the team.

On this Father’s Day, BRAC Liberia honours the men who shape the lives of adolescent girls and young women through care, guidance, and example.

We acknowledge fathers, community leaders, town chiefs, teachers, mentors, and all men who support adolescent girls and young women in realising their potential.

In communities, positive male engagement makes a difference. When men listen to girls, they boost confidence. When they support education, they open doors to opportunity. When they treat girls and boys with equal respect, they foster fair and thriving communities.

Evidence shows that when families and communities support girls, they are more likely to stay in school, avoid early marriage, and become empowered young women contributing to development.

At BRAC Liberia, we believe this responsibility is shared. Every supportive act counts, from encouraging school attendance to challenging harmful norms and creating safe spaces where girls can learn and lead.

Today is World Environment Day

Liberia’s environment matters to our agriculture, our food security, and our future.

Across Liberia, people continue to cut down trees for farming, charcoal, and firewood. But when trees disappear, communities feel the impact. The soil loses strength, water sources come under pressure, rainfall patterns become harder to predict, and farmers face more risk.

Research shows that climate change might cut Liberia’s rainfed rice yield by up to 13 per cent between 2041 and 2050. Inaction could reduce Liberia’s economy by 15 per cent and force 1.3 million into poverty by 2050, according to reports from the World Bank Group.

Through the LEG Go Green project, BRAC Liberia is encouraging simple actions that protect the environment and support stronger communities. These include climate-smart practices, alternative livelihoods, reducing the need to cut down the forests, and raising awareness on climate change.

As part of our work to support farmers, BRAC Liberia will also pilot a Climate Information System Project in July. This will help farming communities access timely climate information, plan better, reduce risk, and strengthen agricultural resilience. A greener Liberia starts with the choices we make today, and grows stronger when communities have the right information to act.

BRAC Liberia has launched a new cohort as part of its youth empowerment work, Accelerating Impact for Young Women, in partnership with the Mastercard Foundation. The programme equips young women and adolescent girls with entrepreneurship, employability, and life skills training, along with resources to start and grow their businesses.

As the new cohort begins, many participants are stepping into these safe spaces for the first time. Some may feel uncertain at first. However, through a structured curriculum delivery, mentorship, peer engagement, and guided activities, they will gain confidence, enhance skills, and envision new futures.

BRAC and the Mastercard Foundation believe in the potential of young people to transform their lives and communities.

This marks the start of many stories, journeys, and opportunities.
