On April 4, our CEO, Lucia N Yeenee, took the stage at the 'Monrovia on the Move' Youth Symposium in Paynesville City and dropped some knowledge. She highlighted how environmental factors like climate change, deforestation, and lack of resources are driving internal migration in Liberia, pushing people from rural areas to urban centers. Understanding this connection is key to building cities that can handle the influx of people and support their needs without sacrificing the environment. At Zero Plastic Liberia, we're committed to being part of the solution by tackling plastic waste and promoting eco-friendly habits. We're all about creating a healthier environment for everyone, and this is just the start.

On World Health Day, Zero Plastic Liberia reaffirms its commitment to mitigating the impact of plastic pollution on environmental and human health. This year's theme, "Together for health. Stand with science," highlights the imperative of leveraging scientific evidence and collaborative efforts to address pressing global health challenges.

The proliferation of plastic waste poses a significant threat to ecosystems, biodiversity, and human well-being. In Liberia, where communities rely heavily on natural resources for livelihoods, the unchecked disposal of plastic waste can contaminate water sources, harm wildlife, and exacerbate public health issues. Research indicates that microplastics and toxic chemicals from plastic debris can infiltrate the food chain, posing risks to human health, including increased exposure to carcinogens and endocrine disruptors.

Zero Plastic Liberia advocates for a comprehensive approach to tackling plastic pollution, grounded in scientific research and policy frameworks. Key strategies include:

Promoting sustainable alternatives to single-use plastics

Enhancing waste management infrastructure

Supporting community-led clean-up initiatives

Advocating for policy reforms that prioritize environmental health

By standing with science and fostering partnerships, we can work towards a future where Liberia's communities thrive in a healthy environment, free from the scourge of plastic pollution.

Zero Plastic Liberia proudly participated in the World Water Day celebration on March 24, 2026, hosted by The National Water Sanitation And Hygiene Commission (NWASHC). This year's theme, "Water & Gender," highlights the crucial role water plays in empowering women and girls.

In Liberia, access to clean water is vital for health, education, and economic growth. Women and girls often bear the burden of water collection, impacting their opportunities for education and livelihoods. By ensuring equitable access to water, we can promote gender equality and improve lives.

We're committed to reducing plastic waste and promoting sustainable water management practices. Together, let's work towards a future where everyone has access to clean water and sanitation.

Today we celebrate the International Day of Zero Waste, a day that reminds the world that waste is not just something we throw away. It is something that shapes the health of our communities, our oceans, and our future.

Here in Liberia, the reality is clear.
Our streets, beaches, and waterways are carrying a heavy burden of unmanaged waste. During the rains, plastics block our drains.

Along our coast, pollution threatens marine life and the livelihoods of fishermen and families who depend on the ocean every day.

But every challenge also carries an opportunity.
At Zero Plastic Liberia, we believe Liberia can rise into a cleaner, more sustainable future. We are working across communities to promote waste segregation, recycling, environmental education, and youth-led climate action.

Step by step, conversation by conversation, we are helping people see waste differently, not as an end, but as something we can manage, reduce, and transform.

This day is also personal for our founder Amb Lucia N. Yeenee, a young Liberian woman who chose to stand for the environment. Being an eco-warrior is not always easy, but it is a calling, a promise to protect the land we love and the waters that sustain us.

And we will continue this work every single day, with courage, hope, and a smile, because Liberia deserves clean communities and a healthy environment.

Today, we invite you to join the movement.
♻️ Reduce plastic use
♻️ Separate your waste
♻️ Support community clean-up efforts
♻️ Teach others about protecting our environment

Together, we can build a Liberia where our streets, beaches, and rivers breathe again.

We had an awesome environmental education session yesterday at Salvation and Deliverance Christian Academy in Topoe Village Community, Lower New Georgia!

Our CEO, Lucia N Yeenee, and our Director of Programs and Operations, Simon Morris, met with the students and shared the importance of taking care of our environment.

We talked about how simple actions like reducing plastic use, recycling, and conserving water can make a big difference. The students were super engaged and eager to learn more about how they can contribute to a cleaner, healthier Liberia.

We're excited to announce that we'll be setting up an eco-club in the school soon! This will give students a platform to take ownership of environmental initiatives and make a positive impact in their community. We're looking forward to working with the students and teachers to make it happen.

A big thank you to the school administration and students for having us. Let's work together to create a more sustainable future for Liberia!

Today, March 23rd, we're celebrating World Meteorological Day 2026! Under the theme "Observing Today, Protecting Tomorrow," we're reminded of the crucial role meteorology plays in our daily lives, especially in Liberia.

As a nation prone to extreme weather events like floods, understanding and predicting weather patterns is key to our resilience and sustainable development. World Meteorological Day highlights the importance of meteorological observations in protecting lives, livelihoods, and the environment.

In Liberia, accurate weather forecasting helps us prepare for and respond to climate-related hazards, ensuring the safety of our communities and supporting our economy, particularly in agriculture and fisheries.

Let's use this day to raise awareness about climate action and the significance of meteorology in building a safer, more sustainable future for all.

Today, we celebrate World Water Day! As we mark this important day, we're highlighting the vital role Liberia's water resources play in our lives, especially for women and girls.

This year's theme, "Water and Gender," sheds light on the disproportionate impact of water scarcity on women and girls, who often bear the brunt of collecting water, affecting their education, health, and economic opportunities.

At Zero Plastic Liberia, we're committed to making a difference. We're working tirelessly to ensure safe access to water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) for all, promoting equality and empowering women and girls.

Join us in taking action! Conserve water, repair leaks, and support initiatives providing WASH services. Together, we can create a more equitable future.
