Yesterday, August 19, 2026, we held a National Dialogue on Enhancing Local Governance and Accelerating County Development Agenda (CDA) Implementation in Liberia, in collaboration with the Governance Commission and Ministry of Local Government.
It was a timely national event for confronting one of Liberiaโs most important governance challenges: how to translate decentralization laws, County Development Agendas, and public resources into tangible improvements in the lives of citizens.
Powerful statements were delivered by Hon. Dorwohn T. Gleekia, Representative, Electoral District No. 6, Nimba County and Chairman, Committee on Good Governance and Govโt; Hon. Edward K. Mulbah, Deputy Minister of Local Government, Ministry of Local Government; Ambassador Gerard Considine, Embassy of Ireland in Liberia; Eric Boykai, Interim National Program Coordinator of the Liberia Decentralisation Support Program (LDSP/UNDP); and Hon. Alaric K. Tokpa, Acting Chairman, Governance Commission.
Discussions were focused on practical ways to strengthen local governance, promote meaningful citizen participation, accelerate the implementation of County Development Agendas, and improve public service delivery across Liberia.
The national dialogue brought together key stakeholders including representatives of the Legislature, government institutions, county authorities, civil society, CAAT members, and development partners. Stakeholders at the event committed to complimenting existing efforts on decentralization and local governance to ensure that the country move from policy commitment to implementation, from plans to results, and from decentralization on paper to accountable, citizen-centered governance in practice.
The dialogue was convened under the Strengthening Political Governance and Accountability in Liberia Program, funded by the Embassy of Ireland in Liberia, and implemented through the Governance CSOs Consortium including Naymote, CENTAL and Center for Democratic Governance.
