AMERICAN CONGRESSIONAL DELEGATION VISITS WE4SELF PROJECT COMMUNITIES

Last month (August), Women Empowerment for Self-Employment (WE4SELF) had the honor of hosting an American Congressional Delegation in our Girls and Young Women Take Action for Peace (GYWTAP) project communities in Todee District, Rural Montserrado County.

The high-level delegation, which included U.S. Senator Jack Reed and Representative Gabe Amo—both from the State of Rhode Island—visited the project sites funded by the United Nations Peacebuilding Fund (UNPBF) through Plan International Liberia.

Led by our Board Chair, Madam Grace Scotland Briamah, the delegation toured the communities and witnessed firsthand the transformative work being carried out with girls, young women, and peace hut women. They expressed deep admiration for WE4SELF’s efforts in promoting peacebuilding, gender equality, and community resilience.

This visit underscores the growing recognition of community-led initiatives and the vital role women and young people play in sustaining peace and development in Liberia.

🌾 WE4SELF Amazing Farm Initiative 🌱

As part of our Sustainability Strategy, Women Empowerment for Self Employment (WE4SELF) is proud to announce the successful launch of two large-scale agricultural projects — the WE4SELF Amazing Farms — located in Gbarpolu and Sinoe Counties.

These farms are flourishing and represent a major step forward in our commitment to empowering women and promoting economic self-reliance through agriculture and community livelihood initiatives.

This milestone would not have been possible without the generous support of The The Kvinna till Kvinna Foundation. 🙌🏽

We remain open to partnerships, technical assistance, and support to scale up our impact and continue building sustainable futures for women, youth, and communities across Liberia.

📩 Let’s work together to grow empowerment from the ground up!

Over the past month, Women Empowerment for Self-Employment (WE4SELF) successfully conducted a Sexual Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) and Gender-Based Violence (GBV) assessment in five schools across Sinoe County.

This initiative engaged adolescent girls directly, giving them the opportunity to voice their challenges, needs, and access to vital information related to SRHR and GBV.

Our goal is to listen, learn, and advocate ensuring that young girls are not left behind when it comes to their health, rights, and protection.

🙏🏾 This important work was made possible through the generous support of The Kvinna till Kvinna Foundation. Together, we are creating a safer and more informed future for girls in rural Liberia. 💜

On April 17–18, 2025, Women Empowerment for Self-Employment (WE4SELF) joined fellow partners of the Kvinna till Kvinna Power Project for a two-day training on report writing with a special focus on Planning, Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning (PMEL).

The training, organized by our dedicated partner Kvinna till Kvinna, aimed to strengthen partners’ capacity in producing high-quality, PMEL-aligned reports that effectively communicate impact and learning.

WE4SELF was proudly represented by Executive Director Janet Walker-Pyne, Project Officer Prince Kemokai, and Communications Officer Mark Gray. The sessions provided valuable insights and practical tools that will enhance our internal reporting processes and ensure better alignment with donor expectations.

We remain committed to building stronger systems of accountability, transparency, and learning as we work toward advancing gender equality and empowering women and girls across Liberia.
