The Atina Women Initiative (AWI) is a social enterprise with a unique platform that provides micro loans to ultra-poor women. It AWI makes affordable, collateral free loans available to impoverished women to help them develop and grow micro-businesses that generate income they can use for basic family needs, education, healthcare, and savings. In addition to income generation, AWI borrowers accumulate assets, improve the standard of living and opportunities for their households. By providing training, education, and access to finance in areas with limited-to-no banking services, AWI aims to promote women's economic participation and carry the hope of prosperity to the poor, and to also reach out to rural areas in Liberia. Our goal is not just to “boost” women out of poverty, but to keep them out of poverty.

The Atina Women Initiative (AWI) is a social enterprise with a unique platform that provides micro loans to ultra-poor women. It also provides business training, support, and conducts outreach programs to members and the wider community in order to foster economic development that empowers women to reorient themselves and their families. AWI’s goals include helping women to build a sustainable poverty alleviated society through women led initiatives. Empowering women with the basic entrepreneurial skills, record keeping and cash management knowledge and resources needed to become economically self-sufficient; to develop their human capacity resources so that they can manage their own operations and direct their own future growth. It seeks to build a network amongst women so that they can utilize one another as resources and jointly address future governance and finance issues from within.
