The Education Development Center (EDC) in collaborations with the Ministry of Education, (MoE) and the Community Safety Initiative (CSI) end a five-day training for teachers.

The Education Center (EDC) in collaborations with the Ministry of Education, (MoE) and the Community Safety Initiative have ended a five-day intensive rollout training workshop for teachers and school leaders across Lofa, B**g and Montserrado counties from support from the mastercard foundation.

February 16,2026

The training, which began on Tuesday and ended on Saturday in Lofa, B**g and Montserrado counties brought together several school leaders and active classroom teachers from selected public and community schools from the counties.

Participants were equipped with practical knowledge and skills to effectively implement the Competency-Based Curriculum and Assessment framework drafted in 2018 integrating from traditional teaching of memorization, practical, demonstration and student-centered based activities.

Facilitators emphasized that teachers are expected to apply the newly acquired strategies directly in their classrooms to enhance engagement and promote meaningful learning experiences to meet the 21st century.

The section focuses on the theme of six major components —commonly referred to as cross-cutting themes—that underscored the Competency-Based Curriculum:

Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC)

Active Learners Centered pedagogy and universal Design for learning

Inclusive and
Gender-Responsive
Pedagogy

Digital Literacy

Safeguarding and

Work Ready Now

Facilitators highlighted that these pillars are essential to creating inclusive, interactive, and modern learning environments that equip students with relevant skills, critical thinking abilities, and digital competencies necessary for the future.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, CSI Executive Director, Mr. Samukai B. Shannoh, described the initiative as part of a five-year, US$40.2 million nationwide program designed to support the full rollout of the curriculum across Liberia.

During the closing remarks, several participants expressed appreciation to the Ministry of Education, mastercard, EDC and CSI for the initiative.

They pledged to apply the skills and knowledge gained to improve teaching practices and contribute to the advancement of Liberia’s educational system.
