FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Liberia Drug Enforcement Agency (LDEA)
January–February 2026 Operational Update

Monrovia, Liberia-March 25,2026
The Liberia Drug Enforcement Agency (LDEA) continues to intensify its fight against illicit drug trafficking and substance abuse in line with the 2014 LDEA Act and President Joseph Nyuma Boakai’s declaration of drugs and substance abuse as a national security threat and public health emergency. The Agency remains committed to strengthening reforms, enhancing operational capacity, and aligning its work with international best practices.

During January–February 2026, the LDEA conducted several nationwide operations targeting drug traffickers and dismantling drug networks. These operations resulted in the arrest of 170 suspects and the seizure of 331.84 kilograms of assorted narcotics, with an estimated street value of US$391,474.76. Additionally, US$150,000 believed to be linked to drug trafficking was confiscated during a major operation at the Bo Waterside Border in Grand Cape Mount
All suspects have been investigated, formally charged, and forwarded to court.
The Agency also strengthened capacity building and prevention efforts. The LDEA commenced Basic Police Recruit Training for 220 volunteers (Class 3), with the first 110 recruits currently undergoing training at the Liberia National Police Academy. Prevention and community outreach initiatives reached over 1,800 students in 11 schools, while additional anti-drug awareness programs were conducted during national events and in schools along the Du-Port Road corridor. The Agency also collaborated with youth groups, civil society organizations, and academic institutions to strengthen national drug prevention efforts.

Despite these gains, the Agency continues to face challenges including delays in adjudicating drug cases, weak border security infrastructure, limited logistics and technology, inadequate specialized training, and emerging digital methods used in drug trafficking.

The LDEA expresses appreciation to President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, the Ministry of Justice, Joint Security, international partners including the U.S. Embassy, INL, and UNODC, and the people of Liberia for their continued support. The Agency reaffirms its commitment to combating illicit drug trafficking and substance abuse and calls for sustained collaboration from national, regional, and international stakeholders.

PRESS RELEASE
Liberia Drug Free Alliance Supports LDEA Operations in Bo-Waterside Drug Arrests
Commends Col. Fitzgerald T. M. Biago and Team for Robust Fight Against Drug Trafficking Across Liberia
Monrovia, Liberia – March 2026
The attention of the Liberia Drug Free Alliance (LDFA) has been drawn to allegations circulating in the media claiming that officers of the Liberia Drug Enforcement Agency (LDEA) took US$150,000 during a high-profile drug arrest at the Bo Waterside Border Crossing on February 19, 2026. These allegations have the potential to undermine the credibility of the LDEA and the ongoing national fight against narcotics trafficking.
Investigations conducted by the Liberia Drug Free Alliance established that the allegation that officers of the LDEA personally pocketed US$150,000 while reporting the narcotics seizure is false and misleading.
Our investigation confirms that narcotics valued at L$10,390,000 were confiscated during the operation, along with US$150,000 in cash. All suspects involved in the case were formally charged and forwarded to the Monrovia City Court for prosecution. The suspects are currently detained at the Monrovia Central Prison, while the US$150,000 seized during the arrest has been officially deposited at the Central Bank of Liberia pending the outcome of the case.
Therefore, the allegation that the US$150,000 was corrupted or misappropriated by officers of the LDEA is false propaganda intended to derail the ongoing fight against narcotics and drug trafficking in Liberia.
The Liberia Drug Free Alliance highly commends Fitzgerald T. M. Biago, Officer-in-Charge of the Liberia Drug Enforcement Agency, and his team of gallant anti-drug officers for their proactive, effective, and accountable efforts in combating narcotics trafficking across Liberia.

LDEA Strengthens Grassroots Fight Against Drugs with Launch of Peer Educator Club and Community Anti-Drug Action Team

As part of the LDEA’s ongoing national awareness campaign themed “Strengthening Community and School Resilience Against Drug and Substance Abuse Through Grassroots Awareness and Mobilization,” the Liberia Drug Enforcement Agency (LDEA), through its Prevention and Community Outreach Services Section, has taken bold steps to deepen its prevention efforts in both schools and communities.

On Tuesday, October 28, 2025, the LDEA conducted an awareness program at J.J. Roberts High School in Sinkor, Monrovia, where students were educated on the dangers of drug and substance abuse and encouraged to make positive, drug-free choices. A Peer Educator Club was officially established to sustain ongoing anti-drug education and peer-to-peer advocacy on campus.

Similarly, on Saturday, October 25, 2025, the LDEA engaged residents of the Fish Market Community, bringing together youth, women, and local leaders for a vibrant anti-drug awareness event. The exercise culminated in the formation of the Community Anti-Drug Action Team (CADAT), a grassroots network dedicated to continuous awareness, prevention, and community vigilance against drug abuse.

These initiatives reflect the LDEA’s commitment to empowering both schools and communities to take active roles in building a safer, drug-free Liberia.
