Everyday Experience

Mental health is an everyday experience we go through. There are still many people, who have no idea or refuse to know what it means to build and support people’s social, psychological, emotional and behavioral wellbeing and resilience.

Everyday, we have to talk to people about their mental health including what substance abuse is and how they care take care of their mental health.

Each and every day, mental health professionals keep finding ways to explain these concepts to our fellow humans when, many people do not want to talk about mental health, substance abuse and other psychosocial issues. People still believe these issues affect people who are weak and they also think that addressing health issues means to always give medications, surgeries etc.

Mental health is as important as physical health. Let’s talk about it.

If you are caring for someone with mental health issues. You are a hero. If no one sees you, I see you and I value you and there are many others just like you and me.

Some little everyday actions for mental health

1. Take care of your body and mind: have adequate sleep, walk or dance or move your body daily, eat well, be positive
2. Connect with others for a good reason- have meaningful conversations, help someone
3 stay informed but set boundaries to avoid information overload, do simple breathing exercises to feel grounded, take a break, do one thing at a time

Reflection on the mental health problems related to the climate ecosystem biodiversity crisis.

When difficult situations such as natural disasters or man made hardships or other difficulties arise, different people respond differently depending on the resources and support available to them and their past life experiences.

For instance, when hardship hits a community, even before outsiders step up to help the community, some members of the community will have already begun helping out using whatever resources they have. Even if it is just listening to their neighbors, 🤝 , being present or simply saying we are in this situation together…etc.

Strengthen social support, promoting community cohesion with respect to cultural norms and practices are essential for building resilient communities. As we can see, hear or feel, the climate ecosystem biodiversity crisis is not occurring in the same magnitude in every region, country, continent and communities but, it is happening in different forms and manner.

Engagement with communities and supporting communities to get involved in activities that protect and minimize climate and health risks can be sustainable and go a long way.

Mental health issues related to climate crisis.

My heart goes out to the people of Nepal and China including all the communities experiencing flash flooding.

The physical situation goes away or gets managed in shorter periods but the mental health issues can linger for a longer period.

Mental health matters, it is a public health and development issue. It is on us as society to respond positively to people with mental, neurological and substance use problems.

Mental health is a continuum, one can move from good mental health and wellbeing at one point to suffering and impairment at another point.

When people with mental health issues have access to timely care and treatment they can recover and make meaningful contributions to the society.

The rainy season is one of the best seasons for farmers and other people. For me, it helps to calm me down but with the changing climate it can be the source of discomfort, stress and trauma.

When people go through constant stress or trauma, their brain gets stuck in intense fear making it harder for them to think well before they act. This is not a healthy state of mind to experience for a long time.
Calming down can be helpful for people who are going through such and can help people reset.

If people don’t have adequate support system and access to services that helps to reset their brain, they may start to stay away from their friends and families, unable to think clearly, difficulty in making decision and adapting to new situations. These are some of the ways people lives can be affected that can also cause disruption to

When people experience flooding and or increased heat, they can feel stressed and overwhelmed. While the flooding or heat may be for short time, it can also have long term effect on people’s attention, memory, perception, thought process and language.

It is very important for mental health and psychological wellbeing to be an integral part of climate change action, disaster management and response and not an afterthought.

Mental health is everyday experience. Have your say!

Mental health makes the foundation of human development. It enables people ability to have meaningful conversations and relationships.

In fact, it is an individual capacity to adapt, to make decision, to learn alone and together with others.

Have you ever thought about what would become of the investments that excludes mental health? Mental health is the platform that makes human development possible.

With the ongoing climate crisis, that disrupts people’s ability to access and maintain meaningful relationships, our ability to adapt and act, not only as individuals but as communities is also disrupted.

Have your say.

The Climate Ecosystem Biodiversity Crisis comes with mental health challenges. Team ANCHOR, we have a work to do with our communities.

Social, economic and physical factors are major influencers of mental wellbeing. Each day we all navigate these factors at different levels and intensities as we are currently doing with the level of flooding, displacement, stress and anxiety.
