FYWE Selected for Organizational Resilience Programme

Monrovia, Liberia: The Foundation for Youth Women Empowerment has been selected to participate in an organisational resilience programme aimed at strengthening institutional systems and improving the long-term capacity of participating organisations.

FYWE was selected for Cohort One of the Réseau des Femmes Leaders pour le Développement (RFLD) Organizational Resilience Program in August 2026 and is expected to receive support starting from September 2026.
The programme includes institutional strengthening support as well as access to management systems designed to improve organisational performance across key departments.

FYWE is also expected to benefit from an in-kind support package valued at US$5,000.

The selection comes as FYWE continues to expand its programmes, partnerships and across several areas, including Youth and Women's Rights, Gender Equality, Civic and Political participation, Community health Services.

For the organization, strengthening internal systems has become increasingly important as the number and complexity of projects under its management continue to grow.

The programme is expected to support improvements in areas such as programme management, administration, finance, human resources and institutional coordination. These systems will help the organization manage its expanding portfolio while maintaining accountability, efficiency and sustainability.

RFLD is a network of 670 member organisations across 35+ African countries.

🌍 INTERNATIONAL YOUTH DAY 2026

Young People. Local Action. Global Impact.

On this International Youth Day, the Foundation for Youth & Women Empowerment (FYWE) celebrates the strength, creativity, courage, and leadership of young people across Liberia and around the world.

The theme “Local Youth Actions for the SDGs and Beyond” is a powerful reminder that change does not always begin on a global stage. It begins in our communities, schools, organizations, neighborhoods, and everyday actions.

Young people have ideas.
Young people have solutions.
Young people have the power to lead change.

At FYWE, we remain committed to creating opportunities for young people to develop their skills, raise their voices, participate in decision-making, and become active contributors to sustainable development.

Today, we celebrate youth not only for who they are, but for what they can achieve when given the opportunity to lead.

Let’s invest in their ideas.
Let’s support their leadership.
Let’s amplify their voices.
Let’s create opportunities for their future.

đź’™ Empower Youth. Inspire Action. Transform Communities.

This year’s theme, “Local Youth Actions for the SDGs and Beyond,” reminds us that meaningful change begins within our communities. Young people are not just the leaders of tomorrow—they are leaders, innovators, advocates, and changemakers today.

At FYWE, we believe that when young people are empowered with knowledge, skills, opportunities, and a voice in decision-making, they can transform their communities and contribute to a stronger, more inclusive and sustainable Liberia.

In solidarity with ActionAid Liberia and fellow climate justice advocates, we proudly participated in the presentation of the Monrovia Declaration on Debt and Climate Justice.

We gathered at 8:00 a.m. and remained committed until the declaration was presented at around 2:00 p.m. Our patience and resilience were tested—and we passed! 🔥💪🏾

United for Liberia’s Forests: FYWE Signs Report, Renews Commitment to Climate Justice

Liberia’s forests are vital to the survival and well-being of millions of people. They provide food, clean water, medicine, income, shelter, and protection from the growing impacts of climate change. Despite their importance, these valuable resources continue to face serious threats from deforestation, unsustainable extractive activities, land degradation, and weak enforcement of environmental laws.

As part of efforts to address these challenges, the Foundation for Youth and Women Empowerment (FYWE) joined other civil society organizations in reviewing and endorsing a report containing key recommendations for improving forest governance and responsible forest management in Liberia.

FYWE was represented by Jacquelina Angel Volel, Project Officer, and Mawatta A. C. Sheriff, Executive Director. Ms. Mawatta A. C. Sheriff signed the report on behalf of FYWE, confirming the organization’s approval of its findings and commitment to advancing its recommendations.

The report will serve as an important advocacy tool for strengthening accountability, protecting biodiversity, promoting responsible forest management, and safeguarding the rights, livelihoods, and interests of forest-dependent communities.

Through this collective action, FYWE renews its commitment to promoting the principles of the Forest Stewardship Council and advocating for sustainable, transparent, and inclusive forest governance. FYWE will continue supporting climate-resilient livelihoods and promoting the meaningful participation of women, young people, persons with disabilities, and affected communities in decisions concerning Liberia’s forests.

FYWE remains committed to working with civil society organizations, government institutions, local communities, and development partners to protect and sustainably manage Liberia’s forests for present and future generations.

Climate Finance Must Reach Communities

Climate finance must reach the communities it is intended to support.
This was one of the key messages from the launch of Actionaid Liberia's Climate Debt Audit Report, attended by FYWE on August 5, 2026.

During the launch, EPA Executive Director Dr. Yarkpawolo called for stronger transparency, responsible management of climate funds and increased access to climate finance for local communities, women and young people.

FYWE believes that those most affected by climate change must not be left out of decisions or denied access to the resources needed to protect their lives and livelihoods.

We call for climate financing that is fair, accessible, transparent and responsive to community needs.

FYWE Joins Climate Justice Call

FYWE joined Actionaid Liberia and government officials, civil society organizations, development partners and community representatives at the launch of ActionAid Liberia’s Climate Debt Audit Report on August 5, 2026, in Monrovia.

The report highlights the heavy burden of climate change in vulnerable countries like Liberia, despite their limited contribution to global greenhouse gas emissions.

FYWE supports the call for developed countries to provide adequate, predictable and accessible climate finance; not loans that push vulnerable countries deeper into debt. Climate finance must reach local communities, especially women and young people who are often among the most affected by the climate crisis.
Climate justice means fairness, accountability and action.

Today, we proudly celebrated the 2026 National Cultural Festival under the theme: "Our Culture, Our Pride: Empowering Women and Girls."

The Foundation for Youth and Women Empowerment (FYWE).

This festival was more than a cultural celebration it was a platform for national unity, learning, and social transformation.

The event brought together traditional leaders, Zoes, women, youth, government representatives, development partners, and citizens from across Liberia to celebrate the richness and diversity of our cultural heritage. Through traditional performances, arts and crafts exhibitions, storytelling, and dialogue, the festival demonstrated that our culture is a source of pride and identity that can be preserved while promoting the rights, dignity, and well-being of women and girls.

One of the most important messages of the festival was that culture and development can go hand in hand. Women who have embraced alternative livelihoods showcased their talents, skills, and businesses, proving that empowering women economically creates stronger families, healthier communities, and a more resilient nation.

For Liberia, this celebration strengthens national unity by bringing people from different counties and cultural backgrounds together. It promotes tourism, supports local businesses and artisans, preserves positive cultural traditions, and encourages peaceful dialogue on issues affecting women and girls. It also inspires young people to value their heritage while embracing education, innovation, and opportunities for sustainable development.

Conclusion

The 2026 National Cultural Festival reminds us that preserving our culture does not mean holding on to practices that limit the potential of women and girls. Instead, it shows that Liberia can celebrate its traditions while promoting human dignity, equality, and opportunity for all.

When communities invest in women and girls, they invest in the future of the nation. A Liberia that protects its cultural heritage, empowers its citizens, and creates opportunities for everyone is a stronger, more peaceful, and more prosperous Liberia. The success of this festival is a clear demonstration that our culture remains our pride, and empowering women and girls is essential to achieving lasting national development.
