*About YAWC Network*
The Young African Women Congress (YAWC) Network is a fraternity of young women of African descent living in Africa and the diaspora who seek to be empowered and be themselves, changemakers for leadership and development on the continent. Membership of the Network is segmented by Chapters based on country demarcations. However, there is a common goal which involves grassroots mobilization of women for leadership and development through advocacy, training and projects. The Headquarters of the Network is in Accra- Ghana and there are currently eight operational Chapters on the continent namely, Ghana, Sierra Leone, Liberia, Nigeria, Cameroon, Uganda, Ethiopia and Kenya. There are currently six other chapters that are in their budding stages. They include two diaspora chapters in the United Kingdom and three other Scandinavian countries precisely Norway, Denmark and Sweden coming together to form a chapter. The other four are Rwanda, Malawi, the Gambia and Zambia.
As part of our activities, there is an annual global convocation of the Young African Women Congress that brings together young women from all the countries on the African continent and the diaspora to advance the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 5. The convocation has been held six times in Ghana and once each in Kenya, Uganda and Nigeria since its inception in 2016.
During the 5 Day period, we feature renowned leaders, educationists, feminists, activists, politicians, artists, entrepreneurs, tech specialists and corporate leaders from across the world and Africa. Our goal is to advance women empowerment and leadership on the African continent and beyond.
A communique is produced from resolutions and practical solutions that are proffered during our interactions with all major stakeholders for implementation and policy amendments. Beyond the “boardroom” activities, there is a cultural night which showcases the rich culture of all participating African countries and the diaspora. There is a gala and awards night which celebrates distinguished Africans who have contributed their quota to the development of the continent and also create the platform for bonding and networking among the delegates from the different African countries.
In addition, the event provides a platform where businesses can connect as well as build relations with clients for engagements through the exhibition side event.
The 2025 Annual Global Convocation of YAWC which will take place in Kigali, the capital of Rwanda, will explore women’s participation in the digital economy of Africa by taking leading roles.
We are the biggest and the most impactful women’s family in Africa.
