It was never really for them a plan, or their intention, to enter politics. But it was a culmination of events that led Rechelline Leerdam, and later Raquel Spanner-Carty to be at the epicenter of political life when communication broke down completely between the political leaders of Sint Eustatius...

The Netherlands Institute for Multi-party Democracy (NIMD) kicks off Human Resource Management Training for more than 25 Legislative Staff:

NIMD begins a three-day legislative staff training in Human Resource Management (HRM) for the national legislature today. The training aimed to increase knowledge of modern human resource management practices, productivity, and the Civil Service Standing Order.

Speaking at the opening session, Cllr. Darren Domah of NIMD explained that the training is an integral part of NIMD’s support towards legislative strengthening and modernization, which is funded by the European Union and the Embassies of Ireland and Sweden, managed by UNDP, and implemented by NIMD and UN Women.
“We hope this training will prepare you to share your knowledge with your colleagues, as well as create a bank of knowledge as part of a sustainable legislative reform”, stressed Anna Brzozowska of the European Union Delegation to Liberia.

“Strong Human Resource Management contributes directly to stronger institutions, better legislative oversight, and improved governance, noted Cllr. Dr. Aagon Tingba of the UNDP.

This Legislative-HRM training is designed to improve staff members' performance and professionalism at the national legislature.

Learning never stops!

“Sometimes what we think we know isn’t quite the full story. I always believed Liberia’s elections were fixed on October 10, until I learned they are actually held on the second Tuesday in October, as provided in Article 83(a) of the 1986 Constitution of Liberia.”

From Counties to Leadership: Empowering Youth for Inclusive Democracy.

The Netherlands Institute for Multiparty Democracy (NIMD) Liberia has launched the Sub-Regional Democracy School for Youth of Political Parties, bringing transformative political education closer to young political actors across the counties.

Through this sub-regional approach, the Democracy School creates a dynamic and inclusive platform for youth from diverse political parties to engage, learn, and collaborate across partisan lines.

More than a training, the Democracy School is a strategic platform for transformation, shifting youth political participation from short-term electoral mobilization to sustained engagement in decision-making within political parties and governance structures.

Across the counties, a new generation of youth leaders is rising, day one equipped, engaged, and ready to serve as drivers of democratic change.

The initiative is implemented under the Liberia Electoral Support Project (LESP), managed by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in partnership with UN Women and NIMD, with support from the European Union, Ireland, and Sweden.

“I can admit that the legislative monitoring report is credible, however, the issue of Senate late sessions as mentioned by the report is due to several consultative meetings before plenary. When we come from there, we behave like the elders that we are. However, as you continue to monitor the legislature, ensure your monitoring extends to the implementation of the decisions it takes. Follow the paper trail of budgetary allocations”

Senator Wellington Geevon Smith of Rivercess County.

At a one-day Policy Roundtable on the LEMCOL Report, facilitated by the Center for Media Studies and Peacebuilding.
