Today, at the One UN House in Monrovia, our team partnered with Liberia Unites and UNV Liberia to host the initial phase of the Job Readiness Workshop for fifty prospective university graduates from five different universities.

The participating universities were the University of Liberia, Stella Maris Polytechnic University, United Methodist University, African Methodist Episcopal University, and Starz University.

During the workshop, students learned essential tools for job readiness, such as acquiring in-demand skills and navigating the job application process, with a particular focus on CV and resume writing. They were also inspired by the importance of giving back to society through volunteerism from stories of some of those who have begun their career as volunteers and have made it distinctively in various spheres of society.

We extend our heartfelt thanks to Mr. Moibah E.N. Sherif, the Human Resource Director at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, for his life-changing facilitation.

A CALL TO ACTION FOR THE FUTURE OF VOLUNTEERING GLOBALLY

This is a humble call to all volunteers in whatever capacity to kindly click the link below and participate in a global survey looking at the future of volunteerism. We would appreciate your input(s). It’s just for 10-15 minutes.

Link: https://www.iave.org/ivy2026/

Kindly read the information below carefully; it will properly inform you of what the survey requires.

In December 2023, the UN General Assembly declared 2026 the International Year for Volunteers for Sustainable Development, or ‘IVY 2026.’ The General Assembly resolution declaring the International Year ‘invites all Member States, organizations of the United Nations system, other international and regional organizations, and other relevant stakeholders, including civil society, the private sector, and academia, to observe the International Year, as appropriate, to promote the importance of volunteers for sustainable development.’

Following the declaration of the International Year, a Scoping Group led by IAVE was formed in early 2024 comprising four leading global organizations in the volunteer space: the International Association of Volunteer Effort (IAVE), the International Forum for Volunteering in Development (Forum), the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC), and UNICEF Generation Unlimited. This group now also includes the Volunteer Groups Alliance (VGA) and intends to further expand as appropriate and as the initiative develops. The group is also working in alignment with the United Nations Volunteers Program (UNV) concerning IVY 2026.

Your input is crucial and we need as many voices as possible, through this survey, to help shape the Global Call to Action and give it authority. We invite all those involved in volunteering in whatever capacity to take part.

As the Alliance of the Volunteering Community in Liberia, we are asking all volunteer-based organizations, volunteers, government entities, and the private sector to participate in this survey and help shift the future of volunteerism globally.

Breaking barriers faced by women in a male dominated society.
Lastly: speakers highlighted the need for mentorship programs, increased representation of women in government and leadership roles.

2. Violence and abuse against Women
