STATEMENT BY HOPE FOR YOUNG PEOPLE INCORPORATED (HOFOYO) ON THE INTERNATIONAL DAY AGAINST DRUG ABUSE AND ILLICIT TRAFFICKING

June 26, 2026

Today, as the world commemorates the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, Hope for Young People Incorporated (HOFOYO) joins the global community in reaffirming our commitment to preventing drug abuse, dismantling illicit drug trafficking networks, and protecting the lives and future of young people.

This day is not merely a date on the calendar—it is a solemn reminder of the devastating human cost of drugs. We extend our deepest condolences to every family that has lost a loved one to drug addiction, overdose, drug-related violence, or the many tragedies associated with substance abuse. We also stand in solidarity with the countless young people whose dreams, education, health, and potential have been stolen by addiction, as well as with every individual and community that continues to bear the social and economic consequences of this crisis.

Drug addiction does not only destroy individuals; it destroys families, weakens communities, fuels crime, and threatens national development. The fight against drugs is therefore a collective responsibility requiring sustained action from government, civil society, communities, families, and young people themselves.

On this important occasion, HOFOYO proudly recognizes and appreciates all those who continue to stand on the frontlines of this fight. We extend our gratitude to our dedicated Board of Directors, Executive Members, staff, volunteers, and Campus Ambassadors, whose commitment and sacrifice continue to advance awareness, prevention, and youth empowerment across Liberia. We also salute every young person, community advocate, health worker, law enforcement officer, educator, and partner working tirelessly to combat drug abuse and illicit trafficking.

The recent seizure of approximately US$19.2 million worth of co***ne at Roberts International Airport has once again exposed the magnitude of the drug trafficking threat confronting Liberia. This case presents a defining moment for our nation.

Hope for Young People Incorporated calls on the Government of Liberia to ensure that the investigation and prosecution of this matter are conducted with integrity, transparency, professionalism, and without fear or favor. Every individual found to have participated in, facilitated, financed, or protected this criminal enterprise should be held accountable in accordance with the law and afforded due process.

This case must not become another missed opportunity in the fight against organized crime. Rather, it should demonstrate that Liberia's institutions are capable of enforcing the rule of law impartially and effectively.

Liberians and the international community are closely observing how this investigation unfolds. The credibility of the process will influence public confidence in the country's commitment to combating drug trafficking. A transparent, impartial, and evidence-based outcome will strengthen trust in Liberia's anti-drug efforts, while any perception that justice is applied selectively could undermine that confidence.

As an organization committed to youth development, HOFOYO remains steadfast in its mission to empower young people through education, leadership, advocacy, and prevention initiatives. We renew our call for stronger investment in youth-centered drug prevention, rehabilitation services, mental health support, and community-based interventions that address the root causes of substance abuse.

Together, let us move beyond words and commit ourselves to protecting the next generation from the devastating effects of drugs.

Drug abuse is preventable. Drug trafficking is prosecutable. Our young people are worth protecting.

"Empowering Students to Prevent Drug Abuse!

Fifty Young Leaders Empowered at Transformational Leadership Training in Monrovia

Monrovia, Liberia – April 21, 2026 — Fifty emerging leaders from across Montserrado County have successfully completed a two-day intensive training “Leading with Impact: The Art & Strategy of Transformational Leadership,” a program designed to strengthen leadership capacity, promote good governance, and inspire national transformation.

The training, organized by the Moniba Foundation Leadership Program in collaboration with Hope for Young People Incorporated, brought together participants from diverse sectors, including government institutions, civil society organizations, health, the private sector, and academia.

Held at the American Shelf of the National Library on Ashmun Street, the program focused on equipping participants with practical leadership skills, ethical grounding, and strategic thinking abilities necessary to address contemporary challenges in Liberia.

A Platform for Leadership Development and National Transformation

The training was anchored on the theme:
“A Nation of Leaders: From Potential to Power,” highlighting the need to transition young people from aspiration to impactful action.

Dynamic Sessions Led by Distinguished Facilitators

The program featured a lineup of experienced facilitators who delivered engaging and thought-provoking sessions.

Dr. Clarence K Moniba a renowned leadership expert and the CEO of the Moniba Foundation, led sessions on Ethical Leadership Leadership Standard Work (LSW) and Adaptive Leadership, emphasizing integrity, accountability, and systems thinking as critical components of effective leadership. During this session, participants deepen their knowledge on developing their personal code of ethics which will help guide them through their leadership journey.

Amb. Thomas Tamba Bundoo Training Coordinator and Executive Director of Hope for Young People Incorporated, Facilitated on Building Partnership and Networking as a Leader. His sessions highlighted the importance of collaboration, adaptability, and perseverance for leadership effectiveness.

Also serving as Facilitators were Rev Kenety S. Gee from the United States of America who inspired participants with a session on Motivational Leadership and Atty. Joyce Nagbe who addressed Gender and Leadership, stressing the importance of inclusion and equity in leadership spaces.

Interactive Learning and Practical Engagement

Beyond presentations, the training emphasized interactive learning, including icebreakers, group discussions, and practical reflections. Participants actively engaged in dialogue, shared experiences, and developed action plans to apply lessons learned within their respective institutions and communities.

The program also created a platform for networking, enabling participants to build meaningful connections and explore potential collaborations.

Strengthening Governance and Leadership Capacity

A central focus of the training was the role of leadership in advancing good governance, accountability, and national development. Facilitators encouraged participants to adopt ethical practices, think strategically, and take responsibility for driving positive change.

Participants expressed appreciation for the depth and relevance of the sessions, noting that the training had significantly enhanced their understanding of leadership and renewed their commitment to making an impact.

Commitment to Continued Impact

At the close of the training, participants were awarded certificates of completion and encouraged to remain engaged through a growing network of young leaders committed to transformation.

Organizers reaffirmed their commitment to expanding such initiatives, noting that empowering young people with the right tools and mindset is essential to bridging Liberia’s leadership gap.

🎉 7 YEARS OF PURPOSE, PERSEVERANCE & GOD’S GRACE 🎉

Happy 7th Anniversary to Hope for Young People Inc. (HOFOYO)

Today, we celebrate seven remarkable years of vision, sacrifice, resilience — and above all, the undeniable power and faithfulness of God.

Seven years ago, on the campus of the Liberia Christian Community College, Hope for Young People Inc. was born. We had no office, no funding, no institutional backing — just a calling, a burden for young people, and faith that God would make a way.

We remember waiting for classes to dismiss before holding meetings. We organized street car washes and community clean-up campaigns to raise small funds to support our activities. We humbly asked people to allow us to squat at their premises just to plan and pray. We wrote hundreds of letters seeking support — many went unanswered. We received promises and pledges that were never fulfilled. We faced financial hardship, communication struggles, mobility challenges, technical limitations, professional barriers, and personal trials.

There were moments of discouragement.

But God sustained us.

When doors closed, He opened others. When resources were scarce, He provided. When strength was low, He renewed our vision. When we felt overlooked, He reminded us that purpose is not dependent on applause.

Because of God’s power and grace, we did not give up.

Over the years, HOFOYO has grown from a small campus gathering into a movement impacting communities. We have led initiatives addressing drug abuse, teenage pregnancy, and sexual and gender-based violence. We have mentored young people, helping them discover their potential and grow into responsible leaders. We have advocated for the rights of women, youth, and vulnerable communities. We have organized community dialogues, school awareness campaigns, and street-corner engagements to confront societal challenges head-on.

Today, by God’s grace, we are able to pay rent and operate from our own office — a milestone that once seemed impossible.

This journey has been a testimony of faith and collective effort.

We appreciate our Board of Directors, led by Rev. Nathan F. Mahteh Sr., for their steadfast guidance. We thank our Executive Team and staff members for their dedication. We honor our volunteers, partners, stakeholders, keynote speakers, facilitators, and every institution and individual who has supported our work. Most importantly, we thank the communities we serve for trusting us.

As we mark seven years, we recommit ourselves to God’s purpose for this organization — to awaken the minds of young people, to restore hope, and to build a healthier, safer Liberia.

The same God who brought us this far will take us further.

We ask for your continued prayers, partnership, and support as we press forward into greater impact in Liberia and beyond.

On Friday January 30, 2026 a team of staff members from Hope for Young People Incorporated led by our Executive Director Amb. Thomas Tamba Bundoo went on a campus engagement campus tour in Gardnersville Township. The purpose of the campus tour was to appreciate the participating schools of the Campus Ambassador Club Program for being very corporative and supportive to the organization and the students, place sign boards at the various schools which serve as an indications that the school and a partner to the fight against drug abuse and teenage pregnancy and to schedule time for our Campus Ambassadors to create awareness and engage their peers on campus.

The campus engagement was successful, school administrators gladly embraced our team and reaffirmed their continuous commitments to the collaboration to ensure a drug free campus and safe space for every student.
