Earlier today, January 29, 2026, the Liberia National Tourism Authority (LNTA) released a statement placing a temporary pause on all pageant activities across the country until further notice. The Miss Inter-University Liberia (MIUL) Pageant Team acknowledges and respects this decision by the LNTA.

We want to reassure the public that MIUL fully supports regulation, compliance, and proper oversight in pageantry. As a pageant centered on intellect, leadership, and national development, we understand the importance of working within established guidelines to meet both national and international standards. We remain committed to cooperating with the LNTA and complying with all directives governing pageant-related activities in Liberia.

It is also important to note that even before the LNTA’s statement was released, MIUL had already taken proactive steps toward collaboration by inviting the LNTA to our upcoming press briefing and initiating an introductory meeting with the Authority. This reflects our transparent, responsible, and law-abiding approach to pageantry.

We kindly encourage our partners, sponsors, supporters, and contestants not to panic. In line with the LNTA’s directive, we have temporarily paused our activities and will continue constructive engagement with the Authority to ensure a positive and orderly outcome.

Please stay connected through our official website and social media platforms for updates as the situation develops.

During our previous edition, we observed that the majority of our queens faced challenges with their research work due to the lack of personal computers.

In response, for this edition, we are providing computers to contestants who do not have personal laptops. This initiative is aimed at enhancing their research capabilities while equipping them with hands-on basic computer skills.

We officially launched this initiative with Miss Courage Cooper of the University of Liberia, as captured in the photos.

At MIUL, we remain committed to empowering our queens beyond the crown by investing in education, capacity building, and long-term personal development.

Yesterday, we kick-started our Research Focus Training for the queens, marking the beginning of a continuous capacity-building process designed to prepare them for the research segment of the Miss Inter-University Liberia competition. This session focused on strengthening their understanding of research, critical thinking, basic computer skills and presentation, all of which are key pillars of the MIUL pageant.

As a pageant rooted in intellect, leadership, and impact, we are intentional about equipping our queens with the knowledge and academic confidence required to represent their respective institutions with excellence. This training is not a one-time activity but part of our daily engagements aimed at sharpening their skills, expanding their perspectives, and nurturing well-rounded, research-driven leaders.

At MIUL, we go beyond the crown, we build minds, purpose, and lasting impact.

Official Condolence Message:

We would like to express our deepest sympathies for the death of an astute student leader, brother, and friend - Varney Jersey.

We also specifically express our condolences to our partner - the Liberia National Students Union (LINSU) - who have engaged with, and supported us as since the initial stages of this pageant. As we have seen over the last weeks, Varney’s death is not only a tragedy to LINSU and his loved ones, but also a loss to the student community and the numerous young people he inspired through his advocacy across Liberia and Africa.

We want to express gratitude to all of our team members who took their time to identify with the mortal remains of Varney, his family, and LINSU.

The MIUL team is committed to continuing Varney’s legacy by uplifting student voices through leadership, intellectualism, and civic engagements. May Varney’s soul continue to rest in peace.

Sincerely,

Tarr Event & Media Consultancy and the MIUL Team
