This week DIGNITY - Danish Institute Against Torture and our incredible partners MIDRIFT HURINET, Prison Watch Sierra Leone - PWSL, AC TV Uganda, Association of Female Lawyers of Liberia, Liberia Association of Psychosocial Services and Community Health Care Initiative INC. will attend the 85th Ordinary Session of the African Commission on Human and Peoples' Rights in Banjul, Gambia.

Civil society organizations are crucial in shining a light on violence, torture, and oppression across the continent. Together with our partners, we aim to provide a vital platform for grassroots voices, frontline defenders, and regional actors to come together and strategize for meaningful change.

Project start-up Meeting: Liberia Association of Psychosocial Services (LAPS) and Montserrado County Health Team Collaborate on BEHOL a project sponsor by Action Against Hunger.

The Liberia Association of Psychosocial Services (LAPS) is excited to announce the successful startup meeting with the Montserrado County Health Team to officially launch the BEHOL Project.
This collaborative project aims to strengthen mental health and psychosocial support (MHPSS) services within Montserrado and Margibi Counties respectively, addressing the emotional well-being and resilience of individuals and communities. During the meeting, both teams discussed the project’s objectives, implementation strategies, and roles to ensure smooth coordination and impactful outcomes.
Key highlights from the meeting included:

Introduction of BEHOL Project Goals: Focus on delivering accessible psychosocial services and building capacity within local health systems.

Collaborative Strategies: Strengthening partnerships between LAPS and the Montserrado County Health Team to integrate mental health services into existing healthcare structures.

Community-Centered Approach: Emphasizing community engagement to raise awareness and reduce stigma around mental health.

The BEHOL Project reflects a shared commitment to improving psychosocial well-being in Liberia. LAPS extends its gratitude to the Montserrado County Health Team for their cooperation, the Action Against Hunger for their support and looks forward to impactful outcomes as the project progresses.

Seidu Swaray and the rest of his team have received an Outstanding Service Award by the Liberian Ministry of Health for their efforts to promote mental health and psyco-social support to the people of Liberia.

Β»For us at LAPS, the award further strengthened our motivation for the continuous provision of human rights-based services in Liberia. It also justifies the legitimacy of our services in the eyes of the government of Liberia and a recognition of how well we have over the years, complemented the effort of the government in preventing violence and offering services to targeted vulnerable populations.Β«
