🚨 TOPIC: TESTICULAR TORSION — SUDDEN TESTICLE PAIN CAN BE AN EMERGENCY

A boy or man suddenly develops severe pain in one testicle. 😣
He may feel embarrassed and decide to wait, hoping the pain will disappear.

That waiting can be dangerous.

Testicular torsion happens when the testicle twists around the spermatic cord and cuts down its blood supply. It is a surgical emergency, and urgent assessment is needed.

🚨 KNOW THE WARNING SIGNS

Possible symptoms include:

🔴 Sudden, severe pain in one testicle
🔴 Swelling of the sc***um
🔴 One testicle appearing higher or sitting differently
🔴 Pain that may extend into the lower abdomen or groin
🔴 Nausea or vomiting
🔴 Sudden tenderness of the affected testicle

Testicular torsion is particularly important to recognize in children and adolescents, although it can occur at other ages.

⏰ DON'T WAIT FOR IT TO “GO AWAY”

This is not a condition to manage at home.

If someone develops sudden severe testicular pain, they should seek urgent medical care immediately so a healthcare professional can determine the cause and protect the testicle if torsion is present.

🩺 WHY DOES SPEED MATTER?

The twist can reduce or stop blood flow to the testicle.

The longer the blood supply is compromised, the greater the risk of permanent damage. WHO guidance emphasizes intervention without delay when testicular torsion is suspected.

⚠️ IT CAN LOOK LIKE OTHER CONDITIONS

Not every painful or swollen testicle is torsion.

Other conditions—including epididymitis and other causes of acute scrotal pain—can produce similar symptoms. This is why sudden severe pain should be assessed by a qualified healthcare professional rather than treated based on guesswork.

👨‍👩‍👦 PARENTS & CAREGIVERS, TAKE NOTE

Teach boys that there is nothing shameful about reporting pain in their private parts.

If a child says:

> “My testicle hurts badly.”

Don't laugh.
Don't shame him.
Don't simply tell him to sleep it off.

❤️ Take the complaint seriously and seek medical attention promptly.

💡 YFHD HEALTH TIP

Sudden severe testicular pain = don't wait and don't self-diagnose.

🚑 Get urgent medical assessment.

Early recognition can make a difference.

ENDOMETRIOSIS — WHEN PERIOD PAIN IS MORE THAN “NORMAL”

Many women are told, “Period pain is normal—just manage it.”
But what if the pain is so severe that you cannot go to work, attend school, sleep properly, or carry out your normal activities? 😔

Severe menstrual pain deserves attention.

Endometriosis is a chronic condition in which tissue similar to the lining of the uterus grows outside the uterus, causing inflammation and sometimes scar tissue. WHO estimates that it affects about 1 in 10 women of reproductive age worldwide—around 190 million people.

🚨 POSSIBLE WARNING SIGNS

A woman with endometriosis may experience:

🔴 Very painful periods
🔴 Heavy menstrual bleeding
🔴 Persistent pelvic or lower abdominal pain
🔴 Pain during s*xual in*******se
🔴 Pain during bowel movements or urination, especially around menstruation
🔴 Abdominal bloating or nausea
🔴 Difficulty becoming pregnant
🔴 Fatigue and reduced quality of life

Some people may have few or no obvious symptoms, which can make diagnosis difficult.

🩺 WHY SHOULD WE TAKE IT SERIOUSLY?

Endometriosis can affect more than menstruation. It may interfere with:

❤️ Fertility
🧠 Mental and emotional well-being
💼 Work and school
❤️ Sexual health and relationships
😴 Sleep and everyday activities

WHO also notes that delays in diagnosis are common, so women should not be made to feel that severe or persistent pelvic pain is simply something they must endure.

🔍 HOW IS IT CHECKED?

A healthcare professional may ask about:

📅 Your menstrual pattern
🩸 How heavy your bleeding is
😣 How severe the pain becomes
🚽 Bowel or urinary symptoms
❤️ Sexual pain
🤰 Fertility concerns

Depending on the situation, examination and imaging such as ultrasound or MRI may be used. Surgery is not always required before treatment can begin.

💊 CAN IT BE TREATED?

Yes. Although there is currently no definitive cure, treatment can help control symptoms and reduce their impact.

Treatment depends on the person's symptoms, health, pregnancy plans, side effects, cost, and availability. Options may include medicines, hormonal treatment, pain management, and—in some cases—surgery.

💡 YFHD HEALTH TIP

Don't let anybody shame you for talking about severe period pain.

If your menstrual pain is severe, persistent, worsening, or interfering with your normal life, talk with a qualified healthcare professional.

🩺 Pain deserves to be heard. Early attention can help.

MENOPAUSE — UNDERSTANDING THE CHANGES IN A WOMAN’S BODY

💡 Menopause is not a disease. It is a natural stage of life—but the changes that come with it should not be ignored.

For most women, natural menopause occurs between ages 45 and 55. It happens after 12 consecutive months without menstruation, when the ovaries no longer release eggs regularly. The years leading up to menopause are called perimenopause, and this transition can last several years.

🔄 WHAT CHANGES CAN HAPPEN?

A woman may experience:

🔥 Hot flashes or sudden feelings of heat
💦 Night sweats
🩸 Changes in menstrual pattern or flow
😴 Difficulty sleeping
😔 Mood changes, anxiety, or low mood
🌸 Vaginal dryness
❤️ Pain during s*xual in*******se
🚽 Urinary symptoms

Not every woman experiences the same symptoms, and some may have few or no noticeable symptoms.

❤️ MENOPAUSE CAN AFFECT MORE THAN PERIODS

Hormonal changes around menopause can also affect bone health, cardiovascular health, s*xual well-being, sleep, mood, and everyday quality of life. This is why menopause deserves proper health information and supportive care—not shame or silence.

🚨 WHEN SHOULD YOU SEEK MEDICAL CARE?

🩺 Talk with a qualified healthcare professional if symptoms are severe, persistent, or interfering with your daily activities.

⚠️ Any unexpected bleeding after menopause should be medically evaluated. Menopause is defined only after 12 consecutive months without menstruation when there is no other obvious cause.

👩‍❤️‍👩 A MESSAGE TO FAMILIES AND COMMUNITIES

Menopause is not something a woman should be mocked or ashamed of. Listen, support, and encourage women to seek appropriate care when symptoms affect their well-being.

💚 YFHD HEALTH TIP:
Know the changes. Talk about them. Get help when needed. A woman deserves support before, during, and after menopause.

Do you think menopause is openly discussed enough in our communities?

VAGINAL DISCHARGE — WHAT IS NORMAL AND WHAT NEEDS ATTENTION?

💡 Let’s clear up a common reproductive-health question.

Having va**nal discharge is normal. Healthy discharge is usually clear to white, without a strong or unpleasant smell, and its amount and consistency can naturally change during the menstrual cycle.

But when the discharge suddenly changes from what is normal for you, it may be a sign that something needs attention.

✅ WHAT CAN BE NORMAL?

🌿 Clear or white discharge
💧 Little or no noticeable smell
🔄 Changes in amount or consistency during the menstrual cycle
💦 More noticeable or slippery discharge around ovulation

These changes do not automatically mean infection.

🚨 WHEN SHOULD YOU GET CHECKED?

Seek professional evaluation if you notice:

🔴 A strong or unpleasant/fishy smell
🟡 Green, yellow, or unusual-colored discharge
🧀 Thick, cottage-cheese-like discharge with itching or burning
🔥 Burning or pain when urinating
❤️ Pain during s*x
🩸 Bleeding between periods or after s*x
😣 Pelvic or lower abdominal pain

Different conditions can cause these symptoms, including bacterial vaginosis, candidiasis, trichomoniasis, or other infections. Some causes are s*xually transmitted and others are not.

🚫 PLEASE DON'T SELF-DIAGNOSE

A similar-looking discharge can have different causes, so symptoms alone may not reliably identify the problem. A healthcare professional may need to ask questions, examine you, and/or test a sample before recommending treatment.

🚫 Avoid putting herbs, perfumes, deodorants, or other products inside the va**na. Douching can irritate the va**na and may increase the risk of bacterial vaginosis.

💚 YFHD HEALTH TIP

Know what is normal for your body. If your discharge changes in smell, color, amount, or consistency—or comes with pain, itching, burning, or abnormal bleeding—don't be ashamed to seek professional care.

💬 QUESTION OF THE EVENING:
Did you know that normal va**nal discharge can change during the menstrual cycle?

❤️ YES
👍 NO

🚨 TOPIC: PELVIC INFLAMMATORY DISEASE (PID) — DON’T IGNORE THE WARNING SIGNS

🔥 A small infection can become a serious reproductive-health problem when treatment is delayed.

Pelvic inflammatory disease (PID) is an infection affecting the upper female reproductive organs. It is often associated with untreated s*xually transmitted infections such as chlamydia and gonorrhea, although other infections can also cause it.

⚠️ WHAT SIGNS SHOULD YOU WATCH FOR?

PID may sometimes cause mild symptoms—or no obvious symptoms at all. Possible warning signs include:

🔴 Lower abdominal or pelvic pain
🌡️ Fever
💧 Unusual or foul-smelling va**nal discharge
🔥 Burning when urinating
🩸 Bleeding between periods
❤️ Pain or bleeding during s*x

If you notice these symptoms, especially after possible STI exposure, seek medical evaluation promptly.

💔 WHY DOES PID MATTER?

When PID is not treated early, inflammation and scarring can damage the fallopian tubes and may lead to:

➡️ Difficulty becoming pregnant (infertility)
➡️ Ectopic pregnancy
➡️ Long-term pelvic or abdominal pain

Treatment can cure the infection, but treatment cannot always reverse reproductive damage that has already occurred.

🛡️ HOW CAN YOU REDUCE YOUR RISK?

🩺 Get tested and treated for STIs.
🛡️ Use condoms correctly and consistently if s*xually active.
🤝 Encourage appropriate testing and treatment of s*xual partners.
🚫 Don't ignore unusual ge***al symptoms.
💊 If diagnosed, take treatment exactly as prescribed and complete it.

💚 YFHD HEALTH TIP

Don't wait for severe pain before taking reproductive health seriously. Early evaluation and treatment of infections can help protect future reproductive health.

💬 QUESTION OF THE AFTERNOON:
Did you know that an untreated STI can sometimes lead to PID and affect fertility?

SEVERE PERIOD PAIN — DON’T ALWAYS CALL IT “NORMAL”

🔥 Your period should not have to stop your whole life.

Some menstrual cramps are common, but very severe or persistent period pain can sometimes be linked to a condition such as endometriosis and deserves medical attention.

⚠️ WHEN SHOULD YOU PAY ATTENTION?

Seek professional medical advice if period pain:

😣 Is severe or keeps getting worse

🩸 Comes with very heavy menstrual bleeding

🩺 Continues beyond your period

🚽 Causes significant pain during bowel movements or urination

❤️ Makes s*xual activity painful

🏫 Stops you from attending school, work, or normal activities

These can occur with endometriosis and other conditions, so only a healthcare professional can determine the cause.

💚 YFHD HEALTH TIP

Don't suffer in silence or assume severe period pain is something you must simply endure. Keep track of your symptoms and talk with a qualified healthcare provider.

💬 QUESTION OF THE AFTERNOON:
Do you think many people ignore severe period pain because they believe it is always normal?

Cervical cancer can develop quietly—but vaccination and regular screening can help prevent it.

Cervical cancer is mainly caused by persistent infection with high-risk types of human papillomavirus (HPV). HPV infections are often without symptoms, which is why prevention and screening are important.

🛡️ HOW CAN WE PREVENT IT?

💉 HPV vaccination — especially for girls aged 9–14, according to national guidelines.
🩺 Cervical cancer screening — helps detect precancerous changes before they become cancer.
🚭 Avoid to***co use.
🛡️ Condoms can reduce HPV transmission but do not provide complete protection.

⚠️ WARNING SIGNS

Seek medical care for unusual va**nal bleeding, including bleeding after s*x, or unusual/foul-smelling va**nal discharge. These symptoms can have other causes, but they should be checked by a healthcare professional.

💚 YFHD HEALTH TIP:
Don't wait until you feel sick to care for your reproductive health. Ask a qualified healthcare provider about HPV vaccination and the cervical screening options available to you.

🔥 Did you know?

Family planning is not only about preventing pregnancy. It also helps individuals and couples plan when to have children and space pregnancies according to their needs.

💡 Some family-planning options include:

💊 Pills
💉 Injectable methods
🩹 Implants
🔄 Intrauterine devices (IUDs)
🛡️ Condoms
📅 Fertility-awareness methods
✂️ Permanent methods

Different methods work differently, and not every method is suitable for everyone. A qualified healthcare provider can help you choose safely based on your health and circumstances.

❤️ Remember

Contraceptive methods help prevent pregnancy, but most do not protect against STIs, including HIV. Condoms can help reduce STI transmission when used correctly and consistently.

💚 YFHD HEALTH TIP:
Don't choose a family-planning method because somebody says it worked for them. Get accurate information and make an informed choice with a qualified healthcare provider.
