Liberia Anti-Trafficking and Scam Victims Support Initiative Condemns Public Assault of Women in River Gee County

The Liberia Anti-Trafficking and Scam Victims Support Initiative strongly condemns the disturbing videos circulating from River Gee County showing women being physically assaulted in public.

We view this act as a serious violation of human rights and the rule of law. No individual or group has the authority to take the law into their own hands by subjecting others to mob violence, humiliation, or physical abuse.

We call on the Liberia National Police to immediately investigate the incident and bring all perpetrators to justice. Those responsible must be held accountable in accordance with the laws of Liberia.

Furthermore, the management of the Liberia Anti-Trafficking and Scam Victims Support Initiative is calling on the Government of Liberia to intensify public awareness campaigns against mob violence and vigilante actions across the country. Citizens must be educated on the dangers of taking the law into their own hands and encouraged to report suspected crimes to the appropriate authorities.

The protection of human dignity, due process, and the rule of law remains essential to maintaining peace, justice, and social order in our communities.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Liberia Anti-Trafficking and Scam Victims Support Initiative (LATSVSI) Appeals for Urgent Support to Rescue Vulnerable Liberians Across Africa

The Management of the Liberia Anti-Trafficking and Scam Victims Support Initiative (LATSVSI) is urgently calling on the Government of Liberia, international partners, humanitarian organizations, development agencies, civil society groups, and well-meaning individuals to support ongoing efforts aimed at rescuing vulnerable Liberians who have become victims of human trafficking, scam-related exploitation, and other forms of abuse across Africa.

In recent years, many Liberians—particularly young people seeking employment, education, and better opportunities abroad—have fallen prey to human trafficking networks and fraudulent schemes operating in several African countries. These victims often endure harsh living conditions, forced labor, exploitation, restricted movement, psychological trauma, and limited access to food, healthcare, and other basic necessities.

LATSVSI remains steadfast in its commitment to identifying victims, providing emergency assistance, advocating for their protection, and supporting their safe return, rehabilitation, and reintegration into society. However, the increasing number of reported cases has placed significant demands on available resources, underscoring the urgent need for stronger collaboration and support.

We therefore appeal for immediate intervention, technical assistance, logistical support, and financial contributions to facilitate:

• Rescue and recovery missions;
• Repatriation and reintegration programs;
• Victim protection and support services;
• Emergency humanitarian assistance;
• Public awareness and prevention campaigns; and
• Capacity-building initiatives to combat human trafficking and scam-related exploitation.

The fight against human trafficking requires a collective response. Together, we can restore hope, protect lives, uphold human dignity, and ensure that vulnerable Liberians are rescued from exploitation and empowered to rebuild their futures.

PUBLIC EDUCATION MESSAGE ON MOB VIOLENCE

Say No to Mob Violence – Let Justice Prevail

Mob violence is a serious crime and a threat to peace, security, and the rule of law in Liberia. No person should be beaten, injured, or killed based on suspicion, rumors, or accusations without a proper investigation and fair trial.

Every individual is innocent until proven guilty by a court of law. Taking the law into our own hands can lead to the punishment of innocent people and create fear and instability within our communities.

When a crime is committed:

• Do not attack or harm the suspect.
• Report the matter to the Liberia National Police or relevant authorities.
• Allow law enforcement officers to investigate and take appropriate action.
• Encourage peaceful conflict resolution and respect for human rights.

Together, we can build a safer Liberia by promoting justice, peace, and respect for the law.

Mob violence is not justice.
Protect lives. Respect the law. Report crime.
