Access to sanitary pads is not a luxury, it is a basic necessity.
Imagine being a young girl in Liberia, waking up for school, but staying home, not because you are sick, but because you cannot afford a sanitary pad. Imagine the shame, the fear, the silence.
At Malakai Foundation, we stand in full support of removing the 30% tax on sanitary pads in Liberia. This tax places an unfair burden on women and girls, forcing many to choose between their health, dignity, and daily needs.
Menstrual hygiene is directly linked to education, confidence, and well-being. When girls cannot afford sanitary products, they miss school, lose opportunities, and face unnecessary challenges that no one should endure.
We call on our lawmakers to take immediate action to pass policies that make sanitary products affordable and accessible for all. Every woman and girl deserves to manage her menstrual health with dignity.
This is not just a womenβs issue, it is a human rights issue.
