A Message from the Liberia Youth Unity Alliance

Today, we proudly join millions of Liberians at home and across the diaspora in celebrating the 179th Independence Anniversary of our beloved nation.

On July 26, 1847, Liberia made history by declaring its independence, becoming Africa's first independent republic. Founded by freed African Americans and free people of color, Liberia became a symbol of hope, freedom, self-governance, and African dignity during a time when much of the continent was under colonial rule.

Our nation's history has been marked by both remarkable achievements and difficult challenges. Through periods of conflict and hardship, the resilience of the Liberian people has remained unshaken. Today, we continue the journey toward a nation built on justice, peace, accountability, unity, and equal opportunity for all.

As young people, we recognize that the future of Liberia rests in our hands. We must reject division, corruption, violence, and hatred, while embracing education, innovation, patriotism, integrity, and national service. Together, we can build the Liberia our forefathers envisioned and leave a stronger nation for generations to come.

On this Independence Day, the Liberia Youth Unity Alliance calls on every Liberian to renew their commitment to nation-building. Let us stand together as one people with one purpose to create a peaceful, prosperous, and united Liberia.

Liberia Youth Unity Allowance Statement Against Racism

The Liberia Youth Unity Allowance firmly condemns racism and all forms of discrimination based on race, ethnicity, nationality, or background. Every human being deserves to be treated with dignity, respect, and equality.

Racism divides communities, fuels hatred, and denies people equal opportunities. It has no place in a society that values peace, justice, and human rights. As young people, we have a responsibility to reject prejudice and promote unity, understanding, and mutual respect.

We call on government institutions, schools, communities, religious organizations, and civil society to strengthen education on equality, tolerance, and peaceful coexistence. We also encourage all Liberians to speak out against discrimination whenever it occurs and to embrace the diversity that makes our nation stronger.

The Liberia Youth Unity Allowance remains committed to building a society where every person is valued not by the color of their skin or their ethnic background, but by their character, integrity, and contributions to national development.

Liberia Youth Unity Allowance Statement on the Growing Drug Crisis in Liberia

The Liberia Youth Unity Allowance is deeply concerned about the alarming rise in drug trafficking and abuse in Liberia. Recent reports of drug seizures valued at over US$19 million and another valued at over US$370 million underscore the scale of the challenge facing our nation.

These reported seizures demonstrate that Liberia is confronting a serious threat that extends beyond public health. Drug trafficking fuels organized crime, undermines national security, destroys families, and places the future of our young people at risk.

We commend the security agencies for their efforts in intercepting these illegal drugs and encourage them to remain vigilant. We also call on the Government of Liberia to strengthen border security, improve law enforcement capacity, and ensure that everyone involved in the illegal drug trade is investigated and prosecuted in accordance with the law.

At the same time, we urge increased investment in drug prevention, public awareness, rehabilitation, and youth empowerment programs. Young Liberians must be given opportunities to choose education, employment, entrepreneurship, and positive community engagement over substance abuse.

The Liberia Youth Unity Allowance stands ready to work with government institutions, civil society, religious organizations, and communities to combat drug abuse and protect the future of our country.

A drug-free Liberia is essential for national development. Together, we can build a safer, healthier, and more prosperous nation.

The Liberia Youth Unity Alliance (LYUA) is proud to announce that our Secretary General, D. Darlington Nyanti, had the privilege of attending the Liberian Community Conference in Kigali, Rwanda.

During the conference, Dr. Cllr. Jallah A. Barbu delivered a timely and insightful presentation on the roadmap for the establishment of a War and Economic Crimes Court and a National Anti-Corruption Court in Liberia.

This engagement reflects LUYA's commitment to promoting justice, accountability, transparency, and the rule of law. We believe that empowering young people with knowledge and encouraging their participation in national conversations are essential steps toward building a more just and prosperous Liberia.

The Liberia Youth Unity Alliance cannot remain silent while innocent citizens continue to suffer on our roads.

The tragic condition of Amelia Diamond Chenoweth is a painful reminder that road safety remains a serious national issue. We call on the Government of Liberia, through the relevant authorities, to thoroughly investigate this incident and strengthen enforcement against reckless and negligent truck drivers whose actions continue to put lives at risk.

As young people committed to the development and well-being of Liberia, we urge the government to take immediate action to improve road safety measures, enforce traffic regulations, and hold violators accountable.

We also appeal to the general public, humanitarian organizations, and all well-meaning Liberians to support Amelia during this difficult time. Every contribution can help provide the medical care she urgently needs.

A nation that values its people must protect them. It is time for action, accountability, and safer roads for all Liberians.
