BUSA-UL CHAPTER STANDS WITH VETERAN MARTIN K. N. KOLLIE IN THE FIGHT AGAINST DRUG ABUSE IN LIBERIA
Monrovia, Liberia — The B**g County Students Association–University of Liberia Chapter (BUSA-UL) joins its voice with Veteran Martin K. N. Kollie in raising a strong and urgent call against the growing threat of drug abuse in Liberia.
This is more than a call for public attention; it is a call to save lives, protect our young people, restore hope, and defend the future of our nation.
Across Liberia, families and communities continue to feel the devastating effects of drug abuse. Parents watch with pain as their children struggle with addiction. Young people who should be in classrooms, learning skills, building careers, and preparing to lead tomorrow are increasingly being exposed to substances that threaten their health, education, relationships, and future.
BUSA-UL recognizes that drug abuse is not only an individual problem—it is a national concern that demands collective action.
Veteran Martin K. N. Kollie has demonstrated courage by speaking openly about this painful reality and calling for greater attention, accountability, and action. BUSA-UL therefore stands firmly with his advocacy and encourages all well-meaning Liberians to support efforts aimed at confronting drug abuse and protecting vulnerable young people.
We believe that the fight against drugs must go beyond speeches and social media discussions. It must translate into meaningful action. Government institutions, law-enforcement authorities, schools, universities, parents, community leaders, religious institutions, civil society organizations, and young people themselves all have a role to play.
BUSA-UL particularly calls for:
✅Stronger enforcement of laws against the illegal trafficking and distribution of dangerous drugs.
✅Greater accountability for individuals and networks that profit from the destruction of young lives.
✅Increased public awareness and prevention programs, especially in schools, universities, and vulnerable communities.
✅ Greater access to rehabilitation and recovery support for people struggling with substance use.
✅Stronger parental and community involvement in protecting and guiding young people.
✅More opportunities for young Liberians through education, skills training, sports, employment, entrepreneurship, and positive community engagement.
✅A united national response that treats drug abuse as a serious social and public-health challenge requiring sustained attention.
At the same time, BUSA-UL emphasizes that people struggling with drug dependency should not simply be condemned or abandoned. They need appropriate support, rehabilitation, guidance, and an opportunity to rebuild their lives. Saving a young person from addiction is saving a family, a community, and potentially the future of Liberia.
We therefore call on the Government of Liberia, the National Legislature, local authorities, civil society organizations, traditional and religious leaders, academic institutions, parents, and young people across the country to rise to this challenge.
The fight against drugs is not Veteran Kollie's fight alone. It is not BUSA-UL's fight alone. It is Liberia's fight.
We must refuse to normalize the destruction of our young people. We must refuse to remain silent when families are suffering. We must refuse to allow the future of Liberia to be sacrificed for profit.
Let us turn our pain into purpose, our concerns into action, and our voices into a national movement for a safer and healthier Liberia.
BUSA-UL believes that Liberia's greatest resource is its people, particularly its young population. Protecting our youth today means protecting the Liberia we hope to see tomorrow.
Veteran Martin K. N. Kollie's voice must continue to rise—and it must be joined by the voices of students, parents, leaders, communities, and every Liberian who believes that our young people deserve a future free from the grip of drugs.
