The National Alliance for Women's Land Rights (NAWoLaR) extends sincere appreciation to the Alliance Office for supporting the successful launch of NAWoLaR on March 5, 2026. We are especially grateful to Ali Kaba of the Liberia Land Authority for serving as the official launcher. In his remarks, Commissioner Kaba encouraged the Alliance to remain proactive in promoting and advancing women’s land rights across Liberia. He emphasized the critical role women play in agriculture and food security, noting that nearly 80% of women are engaged in agriculture and contribute significantly to the nation’s food supply. He also highlighted the challenges women face in speaking about land rights, stressing the importance of advocacy, research, and policy implementation. As he officially launched the National Alliance for Women’s Land Rights, he described the Alliance as a collective platform bringing together civil society organizations, government institutions, community-based organizations, and grassroots women to advance women’s land rights. We deeply appreciate the continued partnership and commitment toward ensuring that land reform policies supporting women across Liberia are effectively implemented.

Yesterday, March 5, 2026, our platform, National Alliance for Women's Land Rights (NAWoLaR), was officially launched in Monrovia.

The launch brought together government officials, civil society organizations, and development partners to support women’s land and property rights in Liberia. NAWoLaR is a national civil society platform uniting organizations, community structures, and leaders committed to advancing women’s equal access to land.

Presenting the overview, Mina Beyan described the moment as historic, noting that while land is central to Liberia’s economic survival, women who form the backbone of the agricultural sector are still largely excluded due to discriminatory customary practices, limited legal awareness, and fragmented institutional responses.

The idea for the Alliance emerged from Rural Women Land Rights Day 2024 and was further strengthened during the Second National Land Conference (Liberia), where stakeholders called for a coordinated platform to address systemic barriers.

NAWoLaR’s work will focus on four key priorities: institutional building, stakeholder engagement, policy advocacy, and capacity building to empower women and promote gender-responsive land governance.

Serving as Chief Launcher, Ali Kaba of the Liberia Land Authority encouraged the Alliance to remain proactive in promoting women’s land rights nationwide. Edward K. Mulbah of the Ministry of Local Government (Liberia) also pledged the Ministry’s support in ensuring national development frameworks become more gender-responsive.

Women’s land rights are not favors they are rights.
